First Past the Post: Outdoor Sports in Armagh
Armagh City has been the home to many outdoor sports and pursuits since the late seventeenth century. While some sports are still alive and kicking, others have quietly disappeared from the map and memory.
To link with the 148th Open at Royal Portrush in July 2019, this exhibition tells the story of the many outdoor sports organisations in Armagh, both past and present. Golf, of course, features, as do bowling, horse racing, archery, tennis, road bowls, cricket, rugby, football, Gaelic football, hurling and road racing.

The second monthly Medal of County Armagh Golf Club's 2019 schedule was contested on 25 May and produced a marvellous victory for young Shane O'Hagan.
In the annual competition, as ever generously supported by Armagh Business Centre, O'Hagan opened in scintillating fashion, and a hat-trick of birdies at the 2nd, 4th and 7th took him to a stunning three under par with 11 holes to play.
County Armagh Golf Club's May Medal champion, Shane O'Hagan, was presented with his prize by Eileen Stewart, manager of Armagh Business Centre, sponsors of the annual stroke competition. A brave four-man team will take on Macmillan Cancer Support's 'Longest Day Golf Challenge' by aiming to play 72 holes at County Armagh Golf Club ... all on the same day!
On Monday 1 July , Kris Blakely, David Ross, Phillip McCoy and Richard Morrison will tee off at 5:30am ... and eventually (and hopefully!) complete their fourth and final round at approximately 7pm .

In County Armagh Golf Club's PGA Tankard sponsored by Armagh Potato Co Ltd, Darren O'Hagan got his chips and wedges just right as he returned a golden gross 74 to leave his rivals burnt and broken.
The annual tournament was contested on 19 May, and this turned out to be something of a red-letter day for the victor. O'Hagan's birdies on the same double green of the 8th and 11th sprinkled the stardust, but his unflappable outing was constructed on the stable foundations of his 10 pars and half a dozen bogeys elsewhere.

The resultant 44 points both sealed Darren's stableford super-show and means he's now playing off 11, which is unlikely to trouble him unduly if this performance is any sort of accurate indicator.

Fifty-three ladies played in the Club Stableford competition generously sponsored by Carey Glass, on Thursday 13 June at Co Armagh. Unfortunately, Philip Corrigan, Carey Glass was unable to attend prize-giving to present the beautiful prizes, which had all been purchased from Vincent Mone and Son, Keady. Welcoming a large number of ladies to prize-giving, Mrs Moya Brady, Lady Captain thanked Carey Glass for the sponsorship.
The competition standard scratch was 71. Alexandra Mawhinney claimed first place with a fantastic 41 pts, 3 points clear of Siobhan Donnelly's 38 pts and Jacqueline Kelly was third with 36 pts.
