It seems like a lifetime ago now given the delightful summer-like reality of the week and a half since but, during County Armagh Golf Club's penultimate weekend of non-qualifying competition on 13-14 April, brass monkeys could be spotted stalking several of the city fairways.

Injecting some much-needed warmth into two days of Four-Ball Better-Ball proceedings, then, were the dynamic duos of Miceal McParland/Cormac O'Hare and Francis Smyth/Shea Smyth, whose hot form scored them tournament victories.

McParland/O'Hare's handsome 46-point salvo included birdies at the 8th and 13th and kept them a single point ahead at the Saturday leaderboard summit.

The winners were most closely challenged by the capable double acts of Ed Hughes/Paul Corvan and Paul McCurry/Brian Clelland, who were separated into second and third places respectively on a break of tie.

Twenty-fours hours later and alongside a different playing partner, 2018 Ulster Cup stalwart McCurry occupied the bronze medal berth once more. This time, he and Marty Gill recorded 43 points, which was one fewer than the bountiful haul with which Gerard Grimley/Sean Bailie sealed the runner-up award.

However, well clear in the Sunday standings were the irrepressible father-son axis of Francis and Shea Smyth, whose combined 49-point effort featured a marvellous 26 points on the homeward trek.
