Two trophies were played for on Thursday 16 th June. The Fox Cup for 0-27 handicaps was won by Colette McAleavey with an excellent score of nett 68. The winner of the Culmore Shield (28-36) with nett 69 was a delighted Sheila Stinson who, on behalf of her company Daily Bake, generous sponsors of the competition, presented all of the other winners with a beautiful selection of prizes. Sylvia Ashe had the best 9-hole result with 19 points. Sheila has sponsored this competition for a number of years and the Ladies Branch is very appreciative of her support.

All players please note the following Rule change for 2016: Clause 4.5(c) has been amended.

The maximum increase in handicap permitted in a calendar year will now be one shot above the lowest handicap achieved in that year. i.e. A player whose handicap starts at 10.4 may only increase to 11.4. If that player’s handicap is reduced at any time during the year (say from 10.4 to 10.0), the handicap may then only increase to 11.0.

Due to some problems with our new software a small number of handicaps have inadvertently been allowed to increase beyond this limit and we are currently working with the provider to rectify the same. In the interim we would ask players to be aware of your correct playing handicap, making the Handicapper aware if it has increased by more than 1 shot within the year.

Lily McMullan, Anne McDonald and Vera Ellingham topped their respective sections and will represent the club in the finals in Dunmurry later in the summer. A BIRIDIE at the par five 12 th will be the defining hole which Joseph McElroy will remember most about his victory in the Henry and May White Memorial Open at County Armagh.

And rightly so - for that score proved the difference when he and John Mawhinney each returned scores of nett 65 and needed separating on countback.

Sponsored by Philip White Tyres Ltd, the annual competition was once again a major attraction for local golfers and visitors. And in excellent weather conditions, top scoring on a superb course was at a premium - just two shots separating the top seven.

17-handicapper Joseph however, produced the steadiest of rounds to lift the coveted silverware.

Philip White and his younger sister Dolores Toigo, home on holiday from Canada, are pictured with County Armagh Golf Club Captain Martin Oliver and winners in the Henry and May White Memorial Trophy competition sponsored by Philip White Tyres Ltd. They are winner Joseph McElroy and runners up John Mawhinney, Gary Livingstone and John-George Willis.
