AN HISTORIC CLUB WITH A MAGNIFICENT GEORGIAN PARKLAND SETTING SINCE 1893

COUNTY Armagh Golf Club's new Juvenile Convenor Neil Cromwell has been busy promoting the game with local youth since taking up his new post in January of this year.

And the rewards of his efforts were highlighted recently in the season's first juvenile boys' awards presentation.

This year, Neill has plans for no less than 22 competitions for Juvenile Boys, between the months of April and September – among them Golfer of the Year, as well as senior and junior cups, shields and trophy competitions. A six-week inter league event is also planned for October.

Neil will also select Juvenile Boys teams to represent County Armagh Golf Club in the Fred Day, Ronan Rafferty and Craigavon Shield competitions.

“I'm delighted with the response there has been among local boys to get involved and play golf at County Armagh,” enthused Neil.

“We're actually catering now for boys from the age of eight years and upwards. Our weekly Wee Wonders competition is proving very popular. The boys play in an 18-hole putting competition and then play 3 holes on our big course. With points accumulated each week (8 from 12) the Wee Wonder Champion and Runner-up will be announced later in the year.”

On a weekly basis, Neil also updates competition results and handicaps for all of the juvenile boys. A new coaching course has also been launched this week for juvenile boys and will run until the end of August.

Club Captain Martin Oliver said: “Neil's efforts have been magnificent this year. I am delighted he has taken on the role of Juvenile Convenor. He was, himself, a juvenile at the club and today he is one of our top golfers.”

Martin added: “Getting boys and girls involved in golf at a young age is very important for the game and especially for the future of this great club. Neil is to be congratulated for all his hard work and I hope through his efforts we will see many more young people join up and enjoy the game and the great facilities which we have at County Armagh Golf Club.”
