A BIRDIE at the 17 th hole was simply the cherry on the cake for Gary Lappin in the Johnston's Bakery sponsored June Medal competition at County Armagh.

Returning a winning score nett 62, the 10 handicapper's one under par back nine finish deservedly clinched the coveted Medal.

Gary Lappin is presented with the June Medal by County Armagh Golf Club Captain Martin Oliver who is joined by competition sponsors Alan and Hilary Johnston from Johnston's Bakery, Scotch Street, Armagh. Included also are runner up Paul Corvan and category prize winners Ciaran Moore, Jason Rolston, Joe Rooney and Andrew Miller.

Paul Corvan (11) was just a shot behind on nett 63.

A birdie at the second hole, on his way to a three over par front nine, and another at the 10 th hole, paired with that ‘3'  at the 17 th , set Gary on his way to victory.

Paul, with a birdie at the 7 th hole, was just two over par after nine holes. But a double bogey at the 10 th somewhat spoiled his card. He will however, still have been delighted with a two over par back nine to complete a nett 63 round.

In Category 1, Juvenile Joe Rooney (7) led the way with an impressive nett 65, beating Neil Linton (7) on countback after the Killylea man returned a nett 65 also.

Ciaran Moore (13) won Category 2 with a nett 64 and after opening with a birdie and nailing another at the 11 th hole, Sean Dougan (13) was runner up.

Jason Rolston's (20) nett 67 was enough to clinch Category 3 with former Club Captain Pat McAleavey a runner up with a nett 68.
