WHILE his ‘better half', Lady Vice-Captain Gail, looks forward to a big year in office, Andrew Steed is content at least the spotlight is shining on him for one week this season.
And as winner of the magnificent Bumble Bee Cup, he's every bit deserving of the attention.
Andrew's nett 65 was the top score in the annual stroke competition sponsored by the Victoria Bar, Armagh.
Andrew Steed is presented with the Bumble Bee Cup by County Armagh Golf Club Captain Martin Oliver and competition sponsor Nicky Currie from the Victoria Bar, Armagh. Included also are category prize winners (from left) Eric Hamilton, Brian Loney, Declan McReynolds, John Vernon, Lee Campbell and Jerome Leer.
The 14-handicapper was just two over par at the turn and despite double bogeys at the 15 th and 16 holes, his steady scoring over the back nine saw him return an unbeatable nett 65.
It was one better than 8-handicapper Brian Loney, coming in with a nett 66. He too was just two over after his front nine holes. He dropped a further shot at the 10 th but recovered this with a birdie 2 at the 13 th hole. However, misfortune was to follow for the Killylea man at the 16 th hole - a double bogey spoiling an otherwise level par back nine.
John Vernon (11) pipped last week's Medal winner and Juvenile Captain Lee Campbell (9) to first prize in Category 1. With both returning nett 67's, John's better back nine, which included birdies at both the par five 10 th and 12 th holes, edged it ahead of the teenager who also recorded birdies at the 12 th and 13 th holes.
David Leeman also shot a nett 67 to win Category 2 two shots ahead of Declan McReynolds (14) on 69 nett.
And in Category 3, Eric Hamilton (19) and Brendan Lynch (20) collected the prizes first and second respectively after both returned scores of nett 68.
Jerome Leer (4) produced the Best Gross score of the day – 71.
