A BIRIDIE at the par five 12 th will be the defining hole which Joseph McElroy will remember most about his victory in the Henry and May White Memorial Open at County Armagh.
And rightly so - for that score proved the difference when he and John Mawhinney each returned scores of nett 65 and needed separating on countback.
Sponsored by Philip White Tyres Ltd, the annual competition was once again a major attraction for local golfers and visitors. And in excellent weather conditions, top scoring on a superb course was at a premium - just two shots separating the top seven.
17-handicapper Joseph however, produced the steadiest of rounds to lift the coveted silverware.

John Mawhinney (18) was the next best on nett 65 but conceding to Joseph on countback. And six-handicapper Jimmy Wilson deservedly grabbed third prize with a nett 66 – an impressive two over par front nine and level par back nine worthy of special mention.
Gary Livingstone (14) narrowly missed out on that third prize - beaten on countback - when he too returned a nett 66.
And similarly it required countback to separate the final three prize-winners who each returned nett 67 scores - JP Hughes (22), Michael McGuirk (12) and John George Willis (22) respectively, all collecting prizes.
Philip Kelly (2) won the Best Gross prize with 70 and Richard Doran (4), a shot behind on 71, lifting the runners up prize.
