Big scoring Brian's a winner
In any club stableford 46 points is an impressive winning score, but throw in a 'no-score' at a hole and there's no doubting it could have been even more impressive.
Brian Loney returned that superb score in Sunday's club stableford with a winning round which included two birdie twos - at 11 and 13 - and a string of pars stretching into double figures. His 'no-score' was at the sixth hole but 46 points was always going to be enough to take the top prize.
Kenny Richardson's round was a virtual blueprint copy - ten pars, a 'no-score' at the 10th hole a birdie two at the third hole - but he still managed to amass 46 points and was beaten only by Brian's better back nine.
Consistent scoring at every hole to record 44 points desevedly secured third prize for Declan McKee. Basil Jolly, with 43 points, was denied a top three finish with a triple bogey at the last but will be delighted with fourth prize, while George Gillespie claimed a double share of the Twos Pot with birdies at the third and 13th holes boosting his fifth-place prize money.
Prizes will be added to winners' accounts in the Professional's Shop

County Armagh Golf Club Competitions Convenor Davy Baird celebrated a hole-in-one during Saturday's Club Stroke competition. His 8-iron shot to the par three 11th bounced just short of the pin before rolling up the sloping green to find the hole
Darren hits rich vein of form
Darren Hughes is fast emerging as the golfer in form at County Armagh as the season gets up and running.
After a category win last week with a nett 65 in the CP McNabb Trophy, he claimed the top prize in the week-end's Club Stroke competition with a superb nett 61.
Darren began his round with a dropped shot at the first hole but this was quickly recovered with a bridie three at the second, and after adding a further birdie three at the fifth hole, it was par golf all the way to the turn. That superb from continued on the homeward trek with par after par recorded until the difficult 16th where he dropped only his second shot of the day. And although he finished in the same way he began, with a dropped shot at the last, Darren's nett score 61 was always going to be untouchable.
Joe McKenna was his nearest rival and on any other day his nett 63 might have taken the top prize. He was just six over at the turn and with some consistent scoring and a birdie three at the 18th hole he was deserving indeed of his runners up prize.
G Hughes led the category prizewinners with a nett 65, a birdie three the highlight of his round and George Bradshaw was runner up in the same category with a nett 66. He had a birdie foour at the 10th hole.
In Category Two Pat J Toner rattled in birdies at the second and third holes on his way to a category winning nett 64, and Brian Loney claimed a double share of the Twos pot with bridies at the second and seventh holes as he returned a nett 64 also for the runners up prize.
Eamon Mallon's consistency throughout his round earned him the Category Three top prize with a nett 65 and Brian Liddy was his runner up with a nett 66.

Paul picks up first major trophy
Paul G Doyle claimed the first major silverware of the season at County Armagh after winning the CP McNabb Trophy with a superb nett 63.
Club Captain Tom Calvert will present the magnificent old trophy to Paul at Sunday evening's prize presentation in the clubhouse.
His winning round came on the first of the two-day competition when blustery conditions and the new lift, clean and drop rule made it somewhat more challenging for most. Opening with two pars and a birdie two at the third hole, Paul added a further birdie two at the seventh hole for a one over gross score after nine holes.
It got even better on the back nine with a further three birdies at the 10th, the 12th and the 17th, and with a gross 69 finish, a nett 63 was always going to be hard to beat.
Neill Linton certainly pushed him all the way but had to settle for second prize with a nett 64.
The low handicap category prize was won by Darren Hughes with some consistent scoring and a birdie three at the par four 14th. But Mark Loughran will rue a double bogey seven at the 12th hole after opening with birdies at the first and second holes and adding a further birdie two at the 11th. His nett 65 however, still earned him a prize.
A triple bogey seven at the last was the score which cost Johnny Palmer whose nett 64, including birdies at the sixth, seventh and 11th holes, won him the Category 2 prize ahead of Kenny Richardson with a nett 65.
Gary Baird claimed the Category 3 prize with a nett 65, his round blemished only by a double bogey at the second hole and triple bogey at the final hole. But he was still three shots the better of Stephen McGarvey who picked up the runners up prize with a nett 68.

Newcomer Stephen strokes ahead of the field
Club newcomer Stephen Weir was the model of consistency as he produced a nett 61 to win the Chest Heart and Stroke competition on Saturday.
After nine holes of the charity event he was just five over, with a string of pars blemished only by a double bogey seven at the par five eighth hole. He unfortunately repeated that double bogey seven at the tenth but recovered impressively to add a further four pars and a birdie two at the 13th to complete his winning round nett 61.
Gerry Kelly was in similar good form and will have been delighted with his nett 62 finish to take the runners up prize.
Five-handicapper Mark Loughran however, was the outstanding player of the day, one over after nine and returning a nett 65 to claim the honours in the low handicap category. Gerry McCreesh's nett 66 earned him a deserved second place in the same category.
Leo King will have been kicking himself after a triple bogey six at the par three third hole - his nett 63 finish earned him the top prize in category two - but there could have been so much more to celebrate, especially considering he carded three double bogey holes on his back nine. Martin Murphy picked up second prize in the same category with a nett 64 finish after shooting a par back-nine.
And a birdie three at the second hole inpsired Gary Lappin to a winning round in category three with a nett 63, his back nine edging it in front of Eamon Mallon who also returned a nett 63.

4th Robert Robinson 44pts
5th Derek McKeever 43pts
Patrick is untouchable
Patrick Campbell will have the handicap committee breathing down his neck if he produces any further winning rounds like he did in Sunday's Stableford competition.
His 46 winning points was simply untouchable in the Chest Heart and Stroke charity event, and he could even afford a no score at the final hole!
Jarleth Hagan was his nearest rival with 44 points - and he had a birdie three at the final hole! Barry McGurgan collected third prize with a similar 44 points but will also claim a lions share of the Two's on the day with no less than three birdie twos. And Robert Robinson's 24 points from the front nine set him well on his way to fourth prize with 44 points also.
To round up the day's 'big' scoring, Derek McKeever weighed in with 43 points for fifth - his round including birdies at the 11th and 15th holes.
Prizes can be collected in the Professional's Shop.

Earlybirds scramble win
When many where still enjoying a Sunday morning ly-in, earlybirds Derek McKeever, Jarlath Hagan, Tony Davidson and Kieran Mullan were shooting their way to a Four-ball Scramble victory.
One tenth of the combined handicaps had teams chasing birdies from the outset and it was a magnificent seven which saw Derek and colleagues claim the top prize.
Three birdies from the first four holes set them on their way and they added a further two before the halfway stage. On the homeward trek consistent par scoring with yet another two birdies brought a gross total of 63 and with their combined handcap of 6.7, their 56.3 nett was always going to be hard to beat.
Paul Doyle, Michael Cullen, Tom Fox and Kieran Campbell certainly gave them a run for their money with a half-dozen birdies in their round bringing them a gross total of 62. But it was the 4.4 handicap which proved the difference and a nett 57.6 score could only secure them second prize.
Marty Oliver, Alan Magwood, Fergal and Brendan McKinney missed out on that second prize by the narrowest of margins - just point two, returning a 57.8 nett score with a 6.2 combined handicap.
