The annual Eileen Steenson Memorial Greensomes competition took place on Thursday 20 th April. The competition is played in memory of Eileen who was a great exponent of the game of golf. A former lady captain she inspired many ladies to play and devoted a great deal of her time and energies to the juvenile girls who flourished under her guidance. Elizabeth Mawhinney Lady Vice Captain in her acceptance speech paid tribute to the role which Eileen had played in encouraging herself and her daughters to embrace the game of golf. The greensomes format encourages new pairings which would have delighted Eileen.

It has often been said that there's no substitute for experience, but juvenile member Joe Rooney went some way to disproving that theory on the weekend of 15-16 April.
In clinching victory in County Armagh Golf Club's Easter Stableford competition, Joe posted a phenomenal three-under-par gross 67 to leave more world-weary rivals trailing in his youthful wake.
A breakneck start saw Rooney birdie three of the first four holes before dropped shots at the 5th and 9th somewhat stalled him in his front-nine tracks. However, an inevitable return to the birdie trail at the 10th and 12th and a serene homeward stroll of six closing pars ensured that Joe would sign for 44 points and finish the day as the happiest of Easter bunnies.

To register back-to-back wins is a rare feat, but Neil Dowzell achieved exactly that in the stableford competitions held at County Armagh Golf Club on the weekend of 8-9 April.
Having recently turned in prizewinning displays in both the St Patrick's Day Open and the first week of the Tuesday Cup, Neil had already identified himself as a golfer on top form, but this latest merciless raid of the honours has undeniably marked him out as the man to beat of the early season.
On the Saturday, Dowzell capitalised fully on the beautiful spring weather and rapidly improving and drying course to post a simply fantastic 45 points.
This impressive gross 75 comprised 11 pars, six bogeys and a birdie at the penultimate hole as Neil slammed the door on the rest of the field.
Remarkably, the Dowzell victory margin was only a single point, as pursuing him almost all the way was Malachy McSorley, who notched a massive 44 points.

A thrilling, if nerve-wracking, 5.5-4.5 win over Ballyliffin Golf Club has ensured County Armagh's continued participation in the All-Ireland Four-Ball Trophy.
In the first leg played in Armagh on Sunday 2 April, Tim Teahan's charges comprised a mixture of stalwarts from previous campaigns and a few fresh faces, and this proved the perfect blend as the home side turned in a quite tremendous performance.

While the traditional par 3 curtain-raiser to the Masters tournament in Augusta, Georgia, had to be cancelled amid thunderstorms and tornado threats, there were no such concerns locally as County Armagh Golf Club hosted its very own version of the event on Friday 7 April.
With the course amended accordingly in order to serve up nine testing short holes, players were treated to glorious sunshine as they went in search of pars, birdies and, ultimately, prizes in the competition sponsored by Iron Designs Armagh.
Lee Stewart, doing his most convincing Sergio Garcia impersonation, completed the challenge in just 27 strokes. This was the lowest gross score of the day and gave Lee top spot in the 0-7 handicap section.
Alongside prize winners Anne and Enda O'Reilly are Lady Captain, Gail Steed, and Philip Devlin of Iron Designs Armagh.

As the 2017 season at County Armagh Golf Club starts to gather momentum, Michael Calvert has got his hands on the first piece of silverware to be awarded this year.
A virtuoso performance of 45 points secured glory for Calvert in the CP McNabb Trophy, which was competed for on the weekend of 1-2 April.
Michael refused to get bogged down by the wet conditions underfoot, instead excelling from the off as he posted 23 points on the outward nine. Most impressive here was the gutsy response to a no-score at the 5th — namely two birdies and two pars in the next four holes.
Michael Calvert receives the CP McNabb trophy from Vice Captain, Colm Shannon. Also pictured (L-R) are prize winners David Grimley, Stephen Catterall and Ciaran McCreesh.
