The course was in beautiful condition but it required skill and patience to achieve the top prizes. Ellen Brady secured the gross prize with 23 points. A delighted Jacqueline Kelly took first place with an excellent 37 points play. whilst Hilary Johnston was awarded second place with a score of 32 points.

Only three weeks previously, a back-nine collapse meant that John Vernon had to settle for only a category 1 runner-up prize when overall competition glory had looked to be firmly within his grasp.
Mightily impressive then was Vernon's latest super Sunday when, refusing to be denied top honours once again, the eight-handicapper posted a tremendous 40-point total to triumph in the Club Stableford on 14 May.
A fantastic final flourish in which John birdied the 15th and 17th and was one under par for the last five holes was the very antithesis of the Harps man's late demise on 23 April and testament to a golfer of true character.

With his 60th birthday party on the immediate horizon, Francis Curley had extra cause for celebration after winning the PGA Tankard at County Armagh Golf Club on Saturday 13 May.
In the stableford competition sponsored by Armagh Potato Co Ltd, Francis got his chips and wedges just right as he returned a golden 42 points to leave the other 184 competitors trailing in his wake.
Having only just returned from a holiday to Sawgrass, Florida, the 12-handicapper started rather listlessly here and found himself an underwhelming six over par after six holes. However, Curley finally awoke from his jet-lagged slumber with a two at the Quarry, and thereafter the local solicitor gave a performance that wouldn’t have disgraced The Players Championship itself.
County Armagh Golf Club Captain Richard Stewart congratulates Francis Curley, winner of the PGA Tankard competition sponsored by Armagh Potato Co Ltd. Also pictured (L-R) are prizewinners Francis Smyth, Shea Smyth, Pearse McBride and Cormac O'Hare.

Tim Teahan's All-Ireland Four-Ball Trophy squad have extended their interest in the competition with an impressive 5·5-4·5 victory over Mannan Castle.
The team's first round defeat of Ballyliffin last time out was built largely on a fruitful home performance, and it was a similar story again as County Armagh secured a commanding 4-1 lead on local soil on Sunday 7 May.
Amid sweltering heat, the outstanding result in that first leg came in the final match, where Brendan Lynch and Gerry Doyle were four holes down before staging a remarkable recovery that eventually saw them win the contest through Brendan's fine par at the 18th. As sparks to ignite such comebacks go, Gerry's sensational hole-in-one at the 11th takes some beating and perhaps sowed the first seeds of doubt in the minds of their opponents.

County Armagh Golf Club was a hive of activity on 6 May as a season-high 188 golfers swarmed to the course to contest the Bumblebee Cup, sponsored by the city's Victoria Bar.
The bee's knees in this stroke competition was Christopher Lester, who had every reason to wax lyrical about a stunning nett 62 that saw him grab the Saturday glory.
Lester was no doubt buzzing as he registered pars at the 2nd, 5th and 7th on his way to a halfway tally of 41 strokes, which four under his handicap. No one would have blamed Christopher, though, had his mood turned decidedly waspish after back-to-back bogeys at the 10th and 11th checked his progress and threatened to put a bee in his prizewinning bonnet.
However, there was to be no nasty sting in the tail as Lester rallied brilliantly thereafter, posting three pars in the remaining seven holes, including a nerveless four at the last. His birdie at the 14th was as sweet as honey and represented the ultimate highlight of a tremendous day's work. A worthy recipient of the Bumblebee Cup, Christopher's handicap has been slashed from 22 to 19, and one can predict with some confidence that that number will tumble further as the year progresses.
