116 ladies, including visitors from Banbridge, Old Conna, Portadown, Donaghadee, Kilcock Dungannon and Rossmore competed for the prestigious Armaghdale Cup on Saturday 1st September. The ladies challenge cup was originally presented to the club in 1926 by Lady Armaghdale. The competition was once again generously sponsored by G Davidson Business Accounts Services , represented on the night by Francis Davidson.
Lady Captain Elizabeth Mawhinney welcomed Francis and thanked her sincerely for her company's long-standing support of the competition and the generous prizes provided for the lucky winners.
Jacqueline Donnelly emerged as the winner of the much sought after Armaghdale Trophy with a nett score of 67 beating Teresa McVeigh on a countback. Jacqueline joined the club last year via the Get into Golf initiative and has made great strides as evidenced by her winning performances throughout the year. Una Cullinane secured third place with nett 70

Fifty-seven ladies took park in the club Stableford competition which this week was sponsored by Sawyer's Transport. Lady Captain Elizabeth Mawhinney welcomed everyone to the prize giving and sincerely thanked the new sponsors who had been introduced to the club by Lily McMullan and James Hewitt who have been generous sponsors to the club .
Winner of first prize was Anne O'Hea who returned an excellent score of 38 points. Runner up was Maggie McKee with 37 points just ahead of Vera Ellingham who took third place with 36 points. A delighted and surprised Anne O'Hea thanked her playing partner Jacqueline and the new sponsors.

Fifty-four ladies competed in a 4 Ball competition at Warrenpoint Golf Club on bank holiday Monday 27 th August. Warrenpoint which is also celebrating their one hundred and twenty-five-year anniversary proved the perfect venue for a ladies' outing offering challenging golf within a short journey from home and excellent catering with coffee and scones upon arrival and a beautiful two course dinner to finish the day.
The course was in beautiful condition, but it required skill and patience to achieve the top prizes. Lady Captain Elizabeth Mawhinney thanked everyone for participating in the outing and paid thanks to the Club Manager Mr Paul Revey who had been so helpful in arranging the outing. She also thanked Karen Edgar for doing the cards and the treasurer Jacqueline Kelly for helping to organise the outing.

County Armagh Golf Club's 125 th anniversary's celebrations continued with competitions for both the Men's and Ladies' sections played during the week. On Thursday 23 rd , the Ladies competed for the Trophy which was donated to the club in 1993 for the Centenary celebrations in that year. Sourced by Bee Gordon on behalf of the then Lady Captain, Eileen Steenson, the trophy is a vase produced by Tyrone Crystal, and has been played for every year since then.
The Lady Captain, Elizabeth Mawhinney referred to the donor of the Trophy, Mr. John Lowe, who had joined the Armagh Club in that year and who has been an active member since.
This year the Trophy competition was again generously sponsored by Sterling House Financial Services who were represented by former Lady Captain and current Secretary of the Ladies Branch, Paula McCrory.
In a break with tradition the prizegiving for both the Ladies' and Men's competitions was held in the clubhouse on Saturday 25 th August and was followed by entertainment by the excellent Preacher Caseys.
Lady Captain Elizabeth, accompanied by Paula McCrory presented the successful Ladies with generous vouchers while the Trophy itself was presented to Alexandra Mawhinney whose par breaking net 70 was the lowest score on the day . Three birdies on her opening 9 holes laid the basis for her excellent score.

Thursday was a day of two halves during which those who played in the am had to resort to jackets and umbrellas whilst those who played in the afternoon enjoyed dry conditions and a stiff breeze. However, the treat of rain did not deter the 59 ladies who played in the Club Stableford competition which was sponsored by NicMics Craft Creations.
NicMics is a relatively new enterprise, founded by Nicola Spence, who is a club member and her business partner Michelle Boyd. The talented duo specialises in bespoke, hand-made personalised gifts. The ladies who were in the winners' enclosure were delighted with the beautiful framed prizes which they received. Lady Captain Elizabeth welcomed Nicola to the prize giving and awarded everyone who attended full marks given the problematic road works on the Newry Road.

A delighted Anne O'Reilly who said she had a lovely round of golf with her playing partners Jacqueline and Joy, accepted her prize and, on behalf of all the ladies, thanked Nicola and Michelle for their generous sponsorship and the stunning array of gifts for all prize winners. Nicola in turn congratulated everyone who played and indicated she hopes to be back playing again next year.

The Ladies Summer Open Stableford held on Thursday 9th August was again very generously sponsored by Johnston's Bakery . Lady Captain Elizabeth Mawhinney welcomed everyone to the prize giving ceremony including visitors from Loughall, Dungannon and Rossmore . The Lady Captain was delighted that Hilary Johnston was present to represent her family business who are established and loyal supporters of the club and to present the fabulous prizes which she had sourced from Wil Carey in the Pro Shop.
The top prize and beautiful salver went to Cath Murray with an excellent score of 41 points just ahead of Breda Teahan who returned 40 points. Third place went to Joy Steenson with 39 points beating Rene Calvert on a countback.

Co Armagh Golf Club teed off their Open Week with a 3 Ball Scramble Team competition which proved to be a very enjoyable but equally challenging event. Lady Captain Elizabeth Mawhinney welcomed everyone to the prize giving and sincerely thanked Vice Lady Captain Moya Brady for deputising so ably whilst she had been abroad on holidays.
Elizabeth thanked the new sponsors Gilfresh for their generous prizes which had been sourced from Devine by Donna. The winning trio were Sheila Stinson, Ellen Brady and Valerie Gordon who scored 63 nett beating Bernie Rice, Geraldine Rafferty and Cait McKinney on countback. Third place honours went to Moya Brady, Hilary Johnston and Paula McCrory who returned 63.8 nett. Finally, Fionnaula Quinn, Kathleen Mallon and Pauline Vallely took 4 th place with 65.7 nett.
