County Armagh Golf Club's 125 th anniversary's celebrations continued with competitions for both the Men's and Ladies' sections played during the week. On Thursday 23 rd , the Ladies competed for the Trophy which was donated to the club in 1993 for the Centenary celebrations in that year. Sourced by Bee Gordon on behalf of the then Lady Captain, Eileen Steenson, the trophy is a vase produced by Tyrone Crystal, and has been played for every year since then.
The Lady Captain, Elizabeth Mawhinney referred to the donor of the Trophy, Mr. John Lowe, who had joined the Armagh Club in that year and who has been an active member since.
This year the Trophy competition was again generously sponsored by Sterling House Financial Services who were represented by former Lady Captain and current Secretary of the Ladies Branch, Paula McCrory.
In a break with tradition the prizegiving for both the Ladies' and Men's competitions was held in the clubhouse on Saturday 25 th August and was followed by entertainment by the excellent Preacher Caseys.
Lady Captain Elizabeth, accompanied by Paula McCrory presented the successful Ladies with generous vouchers while the Trophy itself was presented to Alexandra Mawhinney whose par breaking net 70 was the lowest score on the day . Three birdies on her opening 9 holes laid the basis for her excellent score.

County Armagh have qualified for the Ulster final of the All-Ireland Four-Ball Trophy, with the one-off clash against Nuremore to take place at the neutral venue of Dungannon this Sunday 26 August at 2pm.
That appetising fixture was made possible by a tremendous semi-final triumph over Greenisland, the team's fifth opponents in an exhilarating run in this year's tournament.
Tim Teahan's men travelled to Greenisland for the first leg on Sunday 12 August when, on paper, they looked to be weakened by the absence of two of their talismanic pairings due to pre-booked family holidays. However, this squad has repeatedly shown its strength in depth and they turned in another resilient performance here, emerging from the tricky nine-hole course, where the home side was well backed by the many members who watched on, with 2½ of the 5 points on offer.
Having dispensed with Greenisland, County Armagh's All-Ireland Four-Ball Trophy side will now play Nuremore in the Ulster Final of the competition.

County Armagh Golf Club's Ladies and Gents Open Stableford event on 12 August was sponsored by Gaffney Estate Agent and saw Rita Mone and Mark Frazer take up residency in the winners' enclosure.
Rita's remarkable 44-point scorecard showed a fantastic front nine of five bogeys and four pars, and then a birdie at the 15th that nestled nicely among seven further homeward bogeys. Rita was granted a new handicap of 18 as well as the Sunday honours on account of this splendid performance.
Rita Mone, winner of the Ladies' Gaffney Estate Agents Open Stableford competition, is presented with her prize by Gerry Gaffney. Also pictured are County Armagh Golf Club Captain, Colm Shannon, Lady Captain, Elizabeth Mawhinney, and second- and third-placed players, Una Cullinane and Alexandra Mawhinney.
Mark Frazer, winner of the Men's Gaffney Estate Agents Open Stableford competition, is presented with his prize by Gerry Gaffney. Also pictured are County Armagh Golf Club Captain, Colm Shannon, Lady Captain, Elizabeth Mawhinney, and other prizewinners Conor McGuigan and Philip Devlin.

Along with Captain's Day, President's Day and the Lonsdale Cup, the Gerry Lenagh Open is regarded by many traditionalists as one of County Armagh Golf Club's ‘Majors'. And on 11 August, 183 hopefuls hit the fairways in a quest for glory in the annual tournament sponsored by Morgan McLernon Transport Distribution.
No one, however, could match Garrett O'Reilly, who returned a sparkling score of 45 points to get his hands on the historic and much-coveted Gerry Lenagh Memorial Cup. Garrett's red-letter day had begun in earnest with a birdie at the 2nd, before three pars and another birdie at the 6th meant he reached the turn at just two over par.
On the way home, the minor stutter of three-putt bogeys at both the 11th and 13th was undauntedly consigned to virtual irrelevancy by back-to-back pars at the 14th and 15th, and then a perfectly-timed birdie at the penultimate hole that ultimately sealed a maiden ‘Major' title for Dundalk's favourite blow-in. O'Reilly's career-best gross 76 contained no double bogeys and effected a 15-to-13 handicap cut that will be nearly as satisfying as his capture of the beautiful and storied silverware.
County Armagh Golf Club Captain, Colm Shannon, presents the Gerry Lenagh Memorial Cup to Garrett O'Reilly, winner of the Open Stableford competition sponsored by Morgan McLernon Transport Distribution. Also pictured are other prizewinners (L-R): Adam Cromwell, Gareth Reilly, Shea Smyth, Tim Teahan and Joe Rooney.

Thursday was a day of two halves during which those who played in the am had to resort to jackets and umbrellas whilst those who played in the afternoon enjoyed dry conditions and a stiff breeze. However, the treat of rain did not deter the 59 ladies who played in the Club Stableford competition which was sponsored by NicMics Craft Creations.
NicMics is a relatively new enterprise, founded by Nicola Spence, who is a club member and her business partner Michelle Boyd. The talented duo specialises in bespoke, hand-made personalised gifts. The ladies who were in the winners' enclosure were delighted with the beautiful framed prizes which they received. Lady Captain Elizabeth welcomed Nicola to the prize giving and awarded everyone who attended full marks given the problematic road works on the Newry Road.
Winner of first prize was Anne O'Reilly who returned an excellent score of 38 points. Runner up Lynne Brown pipped her playing partner Siobhan Donnelly into 3 rd place beating her on countback with 37 points.
A delighted Anne O'Reilly who said she had a lovely round of golf with her playing partners Jacqueline and Joy, accepted her prize and, on behalf of all the ladies, thanked Nicola and Michelle for their generous sponsorship and the stunning array of gifts for all prize winners. Nicola in turn congratulated everyone who played and indicated she hopes to be back playing again next year.

The vast majority of members at County Armagh Golf Club would bite your hand off to shoot a gross 68 once in a lifetime. Stewart Stevenson, however, was unwilling to settle for that even as the high point of a single playing weekend because, after posting that awesome number in the Open competition on 4 August, he went lower again 24 hours later. Golfing gluttony is a terrible vice.
In the Club Stableford event on 5 August, Stevenson responded to an opening bogey by firing birdies at the 2nd, 6th, 8th, 9th, 12th and 13th and dropping only one further shot. The winning Sunday scorecard showed a three-under par front nine and a one-under-par homeward trek, as Stewart dismissed the challenge posed by the city course in a measly 66 strokes. This was a stunning two-day showing from the silver-haired two-handicapper.
Stewart's accruing 42 points left him two clear of the overall runner-up, Michael Calvert, who amassed four birdies of his own including an incredible hat-trick of front-nine 2's. Calvert has had his handicap pruned to 12 on account of his excellent and eventful gross 79 but is likely still regretting his costly decision not to enter that day's 2's club!
The 9th was just one of six holes that Stewart Stevenson birdied on his way to a majestic gross 66 on 5 August.
