Season first for Gary
Gary Lappin will be presented with the CP McNabb Trophy at County Armagh Golf Club later this month after winning the season's first major stableford competition.
Last year's Tuesday Cup winner clinched the coveted silverware with a superb 44 stableford points. The 17-handicapper was in sizzling form from the off and by the turn was just four over par, giving him a massive 23 points lead from his front nine which included a birdie two at the third hole. After a double bogey at the tenth hole, Gary used up just a further three shots of his handicap to add a further 21 points for a winning total 44.
In second place with 43 points Dudley Marjoram produced steady scoring front and back nine with 21 and 22points respectively earming him the runners up prize on countback.
Traditionally held over two-days, the CP McNabb Trophy once again attracted a huge field, and interestingly it was the Saturday players' who produced the better scores in conditions considerably more difficult than those on Sunday.
Jerome Leer led the category charge with 42 points winning the 0-12 handicaps - a level par front nine and one over back nine producing 21 poionts from each to pip Anthony Farrell on 41 points.
Francie Grimley won the 13-18 handicap categopry with 43 points - a superb front nine producing a masisive 25 points with a further 18 added after the second nine. And Michael McParland showed some of his winning form from the previous year with 42 points securing him second prize in the category.
Winston Gordon's recent good form also earned him first prize in the 19-28 handicap category with 23 and 20 points respectively amassing a winning 43 points, importantly one more than Jim Bagnall who scored 42 points.
The Best Gross score 35 points was won by Conor McGurgan who pipped both Jarlath McReynolds and Mark Loughran with a better back nine score.

Derek's the man to beat!
Derek McKeever is undoubtedly the man with the midas touch at County Armagh Golf Club.
Just a week after lifting the Spring League title, the big man was untouchable in the Chest, Heart and Stroke stableford competition, winning by an impressive 46 points.
A superb one-over par back nine securing 25 points was the making of Derek's two point victory over Gerry Cullen. A 15-handicapper, Derek had already amassed 21 points by the turn and with that brilliant run-in was always favourite for the charity prize.
The nearest challenger, Gerry Cullen set about his impressive round in quite a constrasting way - he had bagged 25 points after nine holes, and even with a further 19 points on the homeward trek, must surely have known he'd be among the prizes with a finishing total of 44 points.
The ever-improving Davy Baird, a team winner the previous week, took the honours in the 0-12 handicap category with an excellent 41 points - birdies at the par three third hole and par five eighth holes saw him on his way to 23 points at the turn, and he added a further 19 points over the back nine after failing to score at the tenth hole. Gervaise Hughes pitched in with an impressive round 40 points for the category's second prize - birdies at the third and 18th holes the highlight of his round.
Davy Spratt won the 13-18-handicap category with an excellent 42 points - 20 and 22 points respectively over front and back nines taking the honours from Paddy Hicks who returned a similar score but with 21 points front and back nine.
The 19-28 handicap category was won by Gerry Kelly with 41 points - 19 and 22 respectively returne , with Paul O'Hagan returning 41 points to claim the runners up prize.
The Best Gross 37 points was returned by Conor McGurgan.

Declan's gang strike gold
DECLAN Lenagh captained an accomplished team of mid-teen handicap golfers to win the 4-Ball Eclectic at County Armagh Golf Club.
But did he recruit or was he recruited by his colleagues Andy Steed, Francie Grimley and Ian Millar?
Declan certainly wasn't declaring when he collected the St Patrick's Day competition prize with his team mates. Their 56 points top score, with Ian Millar's three birdies contribution, was two better than all others.
Two points adrift were the team of Terry Chin, Davy Baird, Brian Wilson and Rodney Lynas who deputised in the absence of a regular component part of this 4-ball!
Michael McGuirk, Oisin Gill, Brendan Lynch and Michael Cullen narrowly lost out on that runners up prize after finishing with 54points also. On countback two bogey holes at 16 and 17 ultimately cost them.

Derek has Spring in his step
DEREK McKeever mastered the mud and wet conditions to become the County Armagh Golf Club Spring League champion.
Scores of 42points, 39points and a final round 43points earned big Derek the coveted prize - the first to be presented in 2012 by new Club Captain Brendan Smith.
Inclement weather throughout the month of February and early March forced Competition's Convenor Paddy Burns to reduce the six week event to just five with individual's' three best cards counting towards the top score.
Impressive as it was, Derek's 124points was surprisingly equalled by Royal School teacher Ian Millar, but he was more than content to accept the runner's up prize after carding three consecutive top scores of 40, 39 and 45 points.
PJ Quinn picked up third prize with a total score 121points, which was equalled by no less than five players and only three of which featured in the remaining prizes. In order they were Killylea painter and decorator Steven Millar, Mark Loughran and Alec Nesbitt whose week three 45 points score was - along with that recorded by Ian Millar and Andy Steed - the competition's top score.
Missing out on the prizes with a 121 score also were Adam Pedlow and Ciaran Black.

Ciaran gets season off to a winning start
CIARAN Black took the honours in the County Armagh Golf Club Open Stableford with an impressive 43 points from a Sunday afternoon round which included two 'no-scores'.
Francie Smyth returned the very same score and in similar fashion with two no-scores - unfortunately at the tenth and 18th holes on his homeward trek which, in countback, was the difference in winning and runners up.
Club Captain Brendan Smyth welcomed players from Mannan Castle, Galway, Dungannon and Rossmore to this the first Open competition of the season, and presented the prizes in front of a packed clubhouse as many took advantage of the St Patrick's Day bank holiday.
Despite failing to score at the second and fifth holes, winner Ciaran still managed to rack up 20 points by the turn. And he added a further 23 on the back nine holes to amass that 43 points tally.
Francie, in contrast was firing on all cylinders from the start and by the ninth hole had an incredible 26 points on his card. Disaster at ten and eighteen cost him dearly, with just a further 17 points collected in between.
Black and Smyth however, were two points clear of everyone else - Gerald McClusky's 41 points earned him third prize on a nine hole countback, Brendan Toner's 41 also secured fourth prize after a three-hole countback from fifth place Danny McGee. And Kieran Campbell's 40 points won him six prize.
Prizewinners who were not at the Presentation of Prizes will find their prizes in the Professional Shop
