'Sofa' so good for Nigel
Nigel McMahon had a smile as big as a Hillview Furtniture showroom sofa when he returned the season's best score to date to win the Club Stroke by four clear shots.
A superb nett 62 earned Nigel the prize, sponsored by Hillview. The 10-handicapper shot a two over par 72 with four birdies sprinkled throughout his winning round. By the turn he was just two over par with a birdie two at the third on the card. After a second birdie at the 12th, a triple bogey six followed at 13 but proved just a minor blip as he recorded back-to-back birdies at 14 and 15 and finished with three par scores.
Nigel, the current Captain's Day champion, had a four shot cushion on his nearest rival, Gerry Kelly, whose nett 66 with a better back nine earned him the runners up prize.
John Maguire produced the Best Gross score of the day - 70 - and picked up first prize in the 0-12 handicap category with an impressive nett 66. And John White collected runners up with an equally impressive nett 67.
Colin Gamble's nett 67 secured first prize in the mid-handicap category and he was two shots ahead of Colin Hughes taking runners up prize with a nett 69.
Fresh from his recent holidays, Gareth Frizell won the 19-28 handicap category with a nett 70. and Jim Bagnall picked up second prize with a similar nett 70, losing out on countback.

Paul's ace but Brian's a winner
PAUL Doyle may have been the recent talk of County Armagh after recording the first hole-in-one at the par three third hole since its restructuring. But it was Brian Loney who topped the scoreboard in the same Sunday Stableford competition.
'Doyler' struck the perfect eight-iron shot for his ace at the 143-yard third hole and celebrated a double when he picked up the competition's low handicap category first prize.
Killylea man Brian Loney however, produced the winning round of the day with 42 stableford points recorded - two more than anyone else in a somewhat depleted field of golfers who were otherwise engaged in club team competitions.
Brian, a regular in the prizes of late, ironically grabbed a birdie two at the third hole and a birdie three at the next as he racked up 21 points over the front nine. Steady scoring on a course which was playing long for the conditions, saw him repeat that feat over the back nine, and with 42 points he was always going to be among the prizes.
As it turned out he was two points better than the rest. Andy Conn produced an excellent 40 points to take the runners up prize. 21 points and 19 points respectively front and back saw Andy home.
Gervase Hughes was among the top scoring over the front nine holeson the day with 23points on his card by the turn. Despite adding only a further 15 points on the homeward trek, he picked up second prize behind Paul Doyle in the low handicap category.
Paul Corvan's 37 points won the mid-handicap category. He too racked up the majority of his points - 22 - on the front nine and added only a futher 15 on the back. But it was enough to secure him the category prize ahead of Brenda McKinney whose 36 points and better six finish earned him second prize.
David McKee took the high-handicap prize with 38 points wihile Ronan McWilliams will rue a no-score at the 18th hole for a 37 points finished which earned him runners up.
The Best Gross score of the day was produced by Neil Cromwell, his 32 points winning on a back-six countback.

Oisin makes a winning lodgement
OISIN Gill hit a rich vein of form to lift the Bankers Cup and almost doubled his trophy haul the very next day in the May Medal competition.
An untouchable nett 63 score won him the Bankers Cup and a nett 70 saw him win the May Medal mid-handicap category. Michael Hannon was his nearest challenger with a nett 65.
A three over par front nine was an excellent platform for Oisin's winning round. And he dropped just a further five shots - surprisngly two at the usually safe par 14th hole - for a brilliant nett 63 finish. On what many declared a difficult and long-playing course, Michael Hannon's nett 65 was equally impressive.
In the 0-12 handicap category, Kyle Johnston's nett 68 and superb three over par back-nine took the first prize ahead of the best gross scorer on the day - 72 - John Maguire returning a similar nett 68 .
Killylea continues to feature in the prizes with Brian Loney collecting first prize in the 13-18 handicap category with a nett. Pat Brannigan was a further two shots adrift but secured the runners up prize with a nett 71 winning on countback.
Colm Quinn made his first appearance in the prize list with a nett 68 winning the 19-28 handicap category and Past Captain Michael Grant was runner up with a nett 69.

Noel's breezy victory
NOEL Loye showed steely determination battling gale-force winds to win the May Medal competition.
The 12-handicapper produced an unbeatable nett 68 score to claim the second of the club's medal prizes this season, and automatic qualification for the Club Championship in September.
Such were the difficult breezy conditions only two players returned below par scores - Richard Stewart joining Noel in the overall prizes with a nett 69.
Birdie two's at the third and seventh par three holes steadied Noel in the wind for a five over par front nine. And he repeated the five over par score on the homeward trek with a further birdie three at the 14th hole thrown in to complete a winning round of nett 68.
Driving his tee shot at the 18th out of bounds, leading to a triple-bogey seven, undoubtedly cost your PRO the top prize. His nett 69 finish however, secured him runners up.
In the low handicaps category, Paul Smyth again led the field with a nett 70 and a four over par back-nine to take the honours from Neil Linton, also returning a nett 70 and claiming his prize too on countback.
Oisin Gill meanwhile, came within two shots of a week-end double. After winning the Bankers Cup competition the previous day, he produced a nett 70 score to claim first prize in the 13-18 handicap category. The overnight two-shot cut obviously took its toll. Danny McGee was second with a nett 71 from a round which included a birdie two at the 11th hole.
Tom Donnelly's nett 72 secured first prize in the 19-28 handicap category with Rodney Lynas three shots a drift on nett 75 in runners up postion.
Conor McGurgan once again produced the Best Gross score of the day (75).

John joins the prize golfers with PGA Tankard win
JOHN Sheehan will represent County Armagh Golf Club in the PGA Championship this season after winning the local competition.
An excellent 41 stableford points secured John the PGA Tankard, sponsored by Armagh Oil Company Ltd.
Once again it was the difficult back-nine holes which sorted most of the winners from the losers. On countback John's 19 points clinched the win ahead of Neil Monaghan who will have been disappointed by his 17 points return after a sizzling 24 points from the first nine holes. Birdies at the second and fourth holes helped John to 22 points and the additional 19 made it up to a winning score 41 points.
Paul Smyth's steady scoring - for a 40 points return - including a birdie two and birdie four at the 12th hole, secured him first prize in the 0-12 handicap category, one point ahead of Paddy Duffy, once again making an appearance among the prizewinners and collecting from the Twos pot with a birdie at the par three ninth hole.
PJ Quinn topped the 13-18 handicap category with 38 points while Patrick Kelly's 37 points and better back nine secured him the runner up spot.
Tim Teehan's 40 points was the outstanding score in the 19-28 handicap category where Basil Jolly made a return to the prizes with his 38 points securing runners up spot.
And Conor McGurgan's 33 points and better back nine was the Best Gross score of the day.

Bumble Bee Cup - it's a sting for Darren
DARREN Hughes was the golfer with the winning buzz in County Armagh Golf Club's Bumble Bee Cup.
The eight-handicapper produced a superb winning score of nett 65 to claim the Arma-tile Ltd sponsored competition first prize and coveted trophy. A level-par back-nine secured Darren the win ahead of Kevin Boyd who also returned an excellent nett 65.
Just three over par after nine holes, Darren was always a front runner, and while many other challengers struggled over the back nine he delivered expertly. A birdie four at the par five 12th hole was followed by the one single bogey of the return trek at the very next hole. But after that it was a faultless finish.
In the categories, Kyle Wilson, ironically also with a level par back nine, and finishing with a nett 66 secured himself first prize in the 0-12 handicap section ahead of Killylea man Andrew Millar, picking up from where his dad Stephen left off the previous week in the prize list.
Michael McParland's nett 67 and better back nine, including birdies at the 13th and 14th holes, earned him first prize in the 13-18 handicap category ahead of another Killylea man Andy McCrea.
Five double bogeys in the last eight holes undoubtedly cost Jonathan Black the top prize - he finished with a superb nett 65 which deservedly earned him first prize in the 19-28 handicap category, two shots ahead of John Grant in runners up position.
BUMBLE BEE CUP WINNERS: Darren Hughes (third from right) is presented with the Bumble Bee Cup by Marty Kelly, from Armatile Ltd, who kinldly sponsored the recent stableford competition.
