Kelly's a stableford hero

Philip Kelly's par at the final hole proved the difference between winning and taking runners up prize in the Saturday Club Stableford competition.

Benny Simpson had tracked Kelly all the way to a 43 points finish, but on coutback that par and a bogey for Benny proved the defining action.

Both players notched up an impressive 23 points on a drying front nine track, a birdie three at the par-four fourth hole the highlight of Kelly's start. And it continued neck-and-neck throughout the back nine with both adding a futher 20 points.

A similar countback was required to separate the 0-12 handicap category with both George Bradshaw and George Gillespie returning 41 points each. Bradshaw took the honours.

Brian Loney, a winner the previous week, continued his rich vein of winning form to produce a score of 40 points and claim first prize in the 13-18 handicap category where a very surprised Paul Corvan picked up second prize with 39 points.

And in the 19-28 handicap Category Jim Bagnall won the day with 42 points, Gareth Frizell runner up with 41 points from his round which included a birdie two at the 13th hole.
