AN HISTORIC CLUB WITH A MAGNIFICENT GEORGIAN PARKLAND SETTING SINCE 1893

Par-ful finish by Gervase

A two-over par back-nine finish to rack up 39 winning points saw Gervase Hughes grab the Club Stableford prize at County Armagh on Sunday.

The nine-handicapper was also only four over par on his outward trek which guaranteed him 18 points. And with that further 21 to add after 18 holes he was thoroughly deserving of his win.

Second placed Alan Hunniford will rue the double bogey six at the 17th hole. He too produced 39 points with 21 on his card by the turn, and adding 18 on the back nine where even a bogey at 17 would have won it outright.

Searing temperatures, blustery conditions plus a drying course which made it difficult to hold the ball on the greens, delivered further respectable category scores this week. Noel Murtagh took the honours in the 0-12-handicap category with 38 points - and that after failing to score at the last hole! Runner up was Neil Cromwell, back in the prizes with 37 points.

Mark Gilllen's 23 points back-nine for a 38 points total won the 13-18 handicap category, with runner up that Killylea man, Brian Loney picking up yet another prize with 36 points.

Rodney Lynas might have failed to register a score at the 17th hole but still won the 19-28 handicap category with 38 points, and J Quinn was a further point back on 37 with two no-scores at 13 and 18 on his card.

John Maguire however was not as wasteful obviously enjoying his golf, deservedly picked up the Best Gross with 34 points.
