Derek's the man to beat!

Derek McKeever is undoubtedly the man with the midas touch at County Armagh Golf Club.

Just a week after lifting the Spring League title, the big man was untouchable in the Chest, Heart and Stroke stableford competition, winning by an impressive 46 points.

A superb one-over par back nine securing 25 points was the making of Derek's two point victory over Gerry Cullen. A 15-handicapper, Derek had already amassed 21 points by the turn and with that brilliant run-in was always favourite for the charity prize.

The nearest challenger, Gerry Cullen set about his impressive round in quite a constrasting way - he had bagged 25 points after nine holes, and even with a further 19 points on the homeward trek, must surely have known he'd be among the prizes with a finishing total of 44 points.

The ever-improving Davy Baird, a team winner the previous week, took the honours in the 0-12 handicap category with an excellent 41 points - birdies at the par three third hole and par five eighth holes saw him on his way to 23 points at the turn, and he added a further 19 points over the back nine after failing to score at the tenth hole. Gervaise Hughes pitched in with an impressive round 40 points for the category's second prize - birdies at the third and 18th holes the highlight of his round.

Davy Spratt won the 13-18-handicap category with an excellent 42 points - 20 and 22 points respectively over front and back nines taking the honours from Paddy Hicks who returned a similar score but with 21 points front and back nine.

The 19-28 handicap category was won by Gerry Kelly with 41 points - 19 and 22 respectively returne , with Paul O'Hagan returning 41 points to claim the runners up prize.

The Best Gross 37 points was returned by Conor McGurgan.
