The Challenge cup team from Armagh lifted the Challenge Cup trophy for the first time in the history of the club. This competition is played among players with a handicap between 30 and 36.
The Armagh ladies had a runaway victory over Fortwilliam in the Ulster final which was played at the neutral venue of Lisburn Golf Club. The team consists of 5 players with 3 super subs. All 5 players won their matches on the day. There were great scenes of celebration at the end when the trophy was presented by Patricia Jordan, President of the Ulster branch of the I L G U, to a very proud captain Eilish Grimes. Paula Mc Crory, Armagh Lady Captain was the proudest person in Lisburn that day and has been smiling ever since this great victory.
The panel of players are as follows. Eilish Grimes, Kathleen Mallon, Sylvia Ashe, Bernie Gribben, Nicola Spence, Kay Molloy, Brigid Mc Eneaney, and Ann Murphy. This is a very strong panel and will take some beating as they are very experienced golfers.
The team have qualified for the All Ireland finals and travel to Courttown in Co Wexford to take on the might of Connaught on 27th Sept. All matches will be played that weekend with the All Ireland Final on the 29th.
We wish the team all the best for the finals and no doubt the hard work begins now. Well done ladies on your magnificent achievement and representing the Club with such distinction.

Richard's in the Black for professional's prize
RICHARD Black squeezed out the extra point on the back nine to take the honours in County Armagh Club Professional Alan Rankin's annual stableford competition.
With no less than four players returning top scores of 40points, the evenutal line-up of winners had to be determined in countback. And with 20 points - one more than each of his equals over the back nine holes - Richard claimed the prize.
Tom Calvert and John Lowe were second and third respectively. John however, will be cursing a 'no score' on the par three third hole while for Tom a single point at the par three 11th hole ultimately cost him the top prize.
Richard's winning 40 points was accumulated in not the easiest of windy and showery conditions. Steady scoring however, saw him register 20 points by the turn, and a similar score on the homeward trek proved to be a winning formula.
'Uncle Tom' Calvert was just two over gross after nine holes bringing home 21 points, but bogey's at the 12 and 14th holes, and a hattrick of bogeys to finish restricted him to a further 19 points.
Handicap Convenor's asistant John Lowe might have been way ahead of the field at the half-way stage had he not failed to score at the third hole, but his double-bogey at 14 added to his demise and third prize.
Keith Stewart was the other golfer to return a top score of 40 points and it earned him first prize in the 13-18 handicap category. Runner up was Colin Gmable on 39 points.
Gervase Hughes led home the low handicappers with 39 points. Alec Nesbitt was runner up, but spare a thought for Kyle Wilson who finished with 39 points, failed to sign his card and was disqualified!
Benny Simpson's 38 points secured first prize in the 19-28 handicap category with Oision McKee runner up on 37 points.
And for a second week running, Conor McGurgan picked up the Best Gross prize with 35 gross points.

Declan's a Medal winner
DECLAN McReynolds produced his best round of the season to win the County Armagh Golf Club August Medal with an impressive score nett 64.
Paul Corvan's double bogey at the par three 13th hole was his ultimate undoing when countback was required to separate the nett 64 scores both he and Declan declared.
Just two over par at the half-way stage, 11-handicapper Declan dropped only a further three shots on his homeward trek for his winng score.
Fourteen handicapper Paul was just three over par at the turn, but as well as that unlucky double bogey at 13, he dropped shots at 15, 16 and 18.
Early-bird Andrew Millar led home the Category winners with a nett 65 and better back nine securing him first prize in Category 1 ahead of George Bradshaw who returned the same score.
In the mid-handicap catetory it was another early-bird Colm McElroy who claimed first prize ahead of Jim McKeown, again countback was required to separate the two nett 66 scores.
And Leslie Lynas's nett 65 for a win in Category 3, where Colm O'Farrel was runner up on nett 66, secured his place in the Club Championship come next month.
