On a day of mixed weather conditions, beautiful sunshine in the morning and heavy downpours of rain in the afternoon, Vera Ellingham emerged as the overall winner of the Lady Captain's prize. Over 90 ladies competed for the array of beautiful prizes which Lady Captain Gail had chosen, including some magnificent handcrafted necklaces designed by Mary Murphy.
Lady Captain Gail hosted the traditional coffee morning for family, friends and club members. The tempting array of scones and tray bakes was once again generously provided by Johnston's bakery. The clubhouse was adorned with beautiful flower arrangements and everything was in perfect condition due to the efforts of Damien the Bar Manager, and Paul the caretaker ably supported by the Ladies Committee.

Thursday 27 th July saw the traditional visiting Lady Captains event in County Armagh Golf Club. Eighteen visiting Captains were welcomed with with a delicious array of scones and traybakes, generously provided by Johnston's Home Bakery, for their Coffee Morning before they participated in a 9 hole competition on the Demense course. The visitors all expressed admiration for the condition of the course.
The main competition for the County Armagh Ladies was the Charity Stableford, which this year has attracted a new sponsor, Specsavers/Hearcare. Despite mixed weather conditions, fifty three ladies competed in the 18 hole competition with a further eight in the nine hole competition.
At the evening prizegiving Lady Captain Gail welcomed everyone to a busy clubhouse with a special mention for Sharon who was representing the new sponsors. The club Captain Richard Stewart was also present and wished Gail every success for her upcoming Lady Captain's Day on Saturday 29 th July.
The overall winner on the day was Carmel Cassidy with 38 points. Bernie Rice secured second spot with 37 points, beating Catherine McAnerney on a count back.

County Armagh Golf course escaped the worst of the summer downpours which saw some local courses closed on Thursday 20 th July. Despite the threat of thunderstorms, 50 ladies turned out to compete for the July Medal. A further 15 took part in a 9 hole competition with another 5 playing in the Get Into Golf competition.
Despite a computer glitch which required scores to be calculated manually, testing the patience of Anne, Una and Barbara, the results were completed in time for the presentation by Lady Captain Gail.
The course was in superb condition, with fast running greens making scoring difficult. Hilary Johnston found no such difficulty however, returning an excellent net 66 to win by 5 shots from Siobhan Donnelly, in second place. Gladys Villiers secured 3 rd place with a 72 while Ellen Brady took another Gross prize with 80 strokes.

Thursday's competition in County Armagh Golf Club was a day of two halves. Bright sunny conditions greeted the morning players while those in the later part of the draw endured rain and wind. Nevertheless 44 players competed for the Ian Donaldson Trophy which was donated by Ian during his Captain's year in 1979. He later served as President of the Club when the existing clubhouse was reopened following reconstruction in 1982.
Bryan Hynds Garden Machinery are the new sponsors for this prestigious trophy. Lady Captain Gail explained that unfortunately the proprietors of Hynds Machinery were unable to attend the prize giving on this occasion but on behalf of the Ladies' Branch expressed her sincere thanks for their generous sponsorship.
Maura McCoy took third place with 39 points just behind Toni McManus who beat her on a countback. The overall winner was Colette McAleavey with 40 points. Accepting her prize Colette thanked her playing partner Lily and the new sponsors, and expressed her delight at being the recipient of the cup.

Hewitt Meats were again the loyal sponsors of the Ellie Mayne Cup. Mrs Ellie Mayne presented the cup to the ladies' branch in 1966 and her golf clubs adorn the walls of the clubhouse.
The glorious weather conditions attracted a large field with 64 completing 18 holes, 10 playing 9 holes and a further 10 participating in the Get into Golf competition.
James Hewitt presented the prizes which had been beautifully arranged by Lily McMullan who had kindly included an additional two prizes for the Get into Golf ladies. Paula McCrory took third place with 38 points just behind Lily McMullan who beat her on a countback with 38 points. The overall winner was a very much in form June Humphries with 39 points. Presenting her with the top prize and the cup, James Hewitt remarked he was delighted to see that June was still showing the rest of the field how to perform. Both June and the Lady Captain Gail Steed thanked the sponsors most sincerely for their invaluable support and were delighted to be assured by James that he was very happy to support the Ladies branch and will continue to do so in the future.

The Ladies Branch of Co Armagh Golf club have been organising a fundraising mixed greensomes golf tournament for a number of years in aid of the RLB, which relies entirely on donations and legacies. This year the event was once again generously sponsored by club member Noel Conn of Noel Conn & Company, Chartered Accountants, Armagh.
Players competed in a shot gun start greensomes competition for an array of valuable golf prizes which were presented by Noel on the night. Gross prize was secured by Anthony Hillen and his daughter whose excellent score of 80 could not be bettered.

The run of poor weather continued for the ladies of Co. Armagh on the last Thursday of June. The morning starters enjoyed a comparatively dry round of golf while the afternoon players had to contend with wet and windy conditions. This was reflected in the scores, some of which owed more to perseverance than golfing prowess. Those who made it into the winner's enclosure were a presented with an array of beautiful gifts which had been sourced from “Devine by Donna”.
A full list of prize winners is set out below but the winner of the Club Stroke with an outstanding score of nett 70 was June Humphries . A delighted June graciously accepted her first prize from the Lady Captain Mrs Gail Steed.
