Conal shoots to Henry White Memorial Cup win
A MAGNIFICENT seven birdies in a six-under par round shot Conal Patterson to victory in the Henry White Memorial Open competition at County Armagh.
The Lurgan man, who plays of a handicap of three, could do no wrong on his way to a nett 64 winning score.
With five birdes from the first eight holes, Conal was four under par at the turn – a bogey four at the par 3 third hole the only fault on his outward trek.
And although he dropped a further three shots over the back nine, birdies at the 12th and 15th holes ensured he was still on for the big win.
Stuart Hall did his very best to snatch it from Conal but came up a couple of shots short with a nett 65 – secured with a three over par front nine and level par back nine.
In third place was Shea Brady who produced a one-over par front nine and level par back nine for his nett 65.
Derek McKeever pipped George Bradshaw to fourth with a better back nine after both returned nett 66 scores, and George will surely have been doubly disappointed after dropping five shots over the final three holes when a low 60’s score looked to be on the cards.
The in-form Gareth Frizell was back among the prizes picking up sixth with a nett 67, and juvenile Lee Campbell secured the final prize with a nett 67 score also.
Niall Brady, younger brother of third-placed Shea, collected the Best Gross score prize with a nett 65 and Philip Kelly was second in the same category with a nett 69 of a 3-handicap.
