JOHN Morgan's birdie finish to a back nine-which yielded a massive 24 points, complimenting 19 points from the first nine holes, proved the unassailable score in County Armagh's Open Stableford competition, sponsored by Alexander Mills.

In fact the winning 43 points could so easily have been more had the young seven-handicapper not ‘dinged' the 8 th hole for a no score.

Adam Hunniford got within a point of John, finishing with 42 points. Ironically he birdied the 8 th hole but then double bogeyed the 9 th !. His back nine also included a birdie at the 15 th .

Pascal Toner was a further point adrift with 41 points. But his 24 points yielded from the back nine saw him claim third prize ahead of Kieran Donnelly and Roy Turner who both also returned 41 points.

In sixth was President's Day winner Brendan Powell, obviously getting to grips with his new single-figure handicap – finishing with 40 points. And the amicable Johnny Palmer strolled in with 39points to claim the seventh prize.

Best Gross score on the day was that of visitor – and former club member – Derek Ritchie, scoring 37 points. And yet again Andrew Millar had to settle for the runner's up Gross Prize with 35 points.
