Philip Kelly was crowned County Armagh Golf Club's Captain's Prize Champion 2019 after firing a breath-taking five-under-par gross 65 on Kenny Edgar's showpiece occasion last weekend.

County Armagh Golf Club Captain's Day 2019
County Armagh Golf Club Captain's Day winner Philip Kelly is presented with the beautiful Captain's Cup by Captain, Kenny Edgar, and his wife Roisin.

Prior to that formidable on-course action, family, friends and members joined Kenny for a decidedly more tranquil Saturday coffee morning that provided the perfect opportunity for all those in attendance to catch up with old pals, admire the wonderful array of prizes on offer, and wish our always industrious, yet agreeably laidback, Captain all the very best.

County Armagh Golf Club have booked their place in the third round of the Senior Cowdy Cup with an ultimately convincing victory over Rossmore.

The first leg was played away in County Monaghan on 19 June when, in pretty grim weather conditions, Gary McCourt's charges emerged with a creditable 7.5 of the 20 available points.

That granted the CAGC lads with a decent platform to build on in the return leg seven days later. And back on home soil, they duly racked up a further 15 points, which meant an overall winning margin of 22.5 to 17.5.

Competition Convenor 2019

As County Armagh Golf Club's dedicated competitions convenor, Shea Brady spends many hours holed up in the scorers' hut collating results from the many and varied CAGC tournaments.

His task will have been a good deal more pleasurable than usual on the evening of 9 June, when a hopeful shuffle through the scorecards revealed that Shea himself had emerged top of the pile.

The big five-handicapper two-over-par 72 was class, and the accruing nett 67 nudged him a shot clear of the chasing pack.
