Seamus Toner, playing off 18, produced a magnificent Stableford performance to claim The Bankers Cup, kindly sponsored by MCSHANE PACKAGING.
Accumulating a superb total of 41 points. Toner showed remarkable consistency across the card and despite a minor blemish on the front nine, he finished five points clear of the traditional 36-point buffer zone to secure a thoroughly deserved win.
Toner burst out of the gates in spectacular fashion, playing his opening three holes in 1-under gross par. This blistering start included an outstanding gross birdie on the par-3 3rd hole. He maintained excellent momentum with rock-solid pars on the 1st, 2nd, and 7th. Disaster struck on the par-4 6th, resulting in a scratched hole and zero points. However, showing true championship grit, Toner shrugged off the setback immediately and carded a gross par, bogey, bogey finish to off his front nine,
With a strong foundation laid, Toner played smart, tactical golf on the homeward journey. He opened the back nine with a minor slip-up on the par-5 10th but quickly steadied the ship with a gross par on the par-3 11th. Additional gross pars on the 12th, 13th, and the difficult 18th hole ensured his scorecard kept ticking over nicely. A gross 42 on the back nine was more than enough to slam the door on the chasing pack and cement top spot.
He was followed home on 40 pts by Kyle Robinson, playing off 37 and his better back 9 saw him hold off Bernard McAleenan, playing off 43, who also carded 40 points.
Shane O’Hagan off 11, finished 4th with 39 pts by virtue of a better back 6, pushing 30 handicapper Declan McCone nto 5th place.
The Gross prize was claimed by Shea Brady, playing off 3, who carded a very steady gross 69 including one birdie and 16 pars that also accumulated 39 points.
