Fegan Claims Lonsdale Cup Glory with Steady Round of 76
Tiarnan Fegan playing off a handicap of 13 was crowned winner of the prestigious Lonsdale Cup which was sponsored by ARMAGH CITY HOTEL, after posting a gross score of 76, securing the title in what proved to be a commendable display of consistent golf.
Fegan carded a double bogey six on the par-four first, but quickly steadied the ship over the following holes. He played holes two through nine in a solid fashion, matching par across the middle stretch of the front nine before turning in 38 — four over par for the outward half.
The back nine told a similar story of composed, determined golf. A blemish at the par-five tenth, where a six crept onto the card, threatened to derail proceedings, but Fegan responded in fine spirit with a birdie at the par-five twelfth.
He recovered well through the middle section of the inward half, stringing together a series of pars to keep his scorecard respectable. A bogey six on the par-four fourteenth and a dropped shot at the seventeenth were the only further setbacks, and he closed out his round with a tidy par three at the eighteenth to complete an inward half of 38.
His final gross total of 76 — seven over the course par of 69 — and a Nett score of 63 was enough to claim the Lonsdale Cup, a fine achievement and a well-deserved victory for the popular golfer.
Second place was claimed by Chris Evans off 17 with a Nett 64, meanwhile Christopher Dawson, playing off 20 edged out Jim McKeown off 15 for third place with a better back nine and Jim also managed to displace David Grimley Jnr off 14 into fifth place as all three finished with Nett 65’s, with Ryan Coleman off 9, finishing sixth with a Nett 66.
Timothy Jordan once again proved the best of the low handicap group claiming the Gross prize with a super Gross 68 that included 4 birdies and 11 pars.
Congratulations to Tiarnan Fegan, Lonsdale Cup Champion.
