- Determined Brian lifts Lenagh trophy
- HAVING missed out by the narrowest of margins on winning the Gerry Lenagh Memorial Trophy last year, Brian McGuigan was determined to go that one step further this time around to secure the magnificent piece of silverware.
- And by returning 42 points in the Morgan, McLernon Transport Distribution sponsored stableford competition he did just that!
- Ironically the eventual outcome was decided on count back - as it was last year - but on this occasion it favoured the retired firefighter. Marc Elliott was the 'unfortunate' runner up, having signed for a similar 42 points on the day.
- Bogeys at the first and third holes got 9-handicapper Brian's round off to an unsteady start. But he quickly settled into a a 'par' routine and with a birdie 2 to complete his front nine, had penciled in 21 points by the turn.
- That steady scoring continued on the back nine and with further birdies at the 14th and 17th holes a similar 21 points was registered for that top score of 42 points.
- Ten handicapper Marc Elliott stroked birdie 2s at the 7th and 9th holes as he chalked up 22 points on his outward trek, and added a further 20 points on his was back for his 42 points total. Unfortunately on count back he was to lose out to Brian and had to settle for the runner's up prize.
- PJ Quinn, a further point adrift on 41 points and claiming third prize, was one of four players to return the same score on the day. But again count back was called upon to decide the outcome with  Brian Loney claiming fourth, Johnny Brown fifth and Colin Woods who disappointingly failed to score at the 17th hole, taking sixth.
- And the final prize went to Winston Gordon on 40 points - back-nine birdies at the 11th and 14th holes the highlight of his round.Â
- Best Gross scores on the day were returned by Philip Kelly and Neill Cromwell each returning 36 points.
County Armagh Golf Club Captain Pat McAleavey presents Brian McGuigan with the Gerry Lenagh Memorial Trophy in the company of the stableford competition runners up Johnny Brown, Neil Cromwell and Winston Gordon.

Gerry celebrates cup win
GERRY Kelly celebrated victory in the Half Century Cup competition at County Armagh.
The affable Gerry was the popular winner with 40 points in the stableford event for the club's over 50's and was presented with the coveted trophy by Club Captain Pat McAleavey.
It was two better than all the rest - consistent scoring front and back nines securing 20 points on each for that top score.
Noel Loye was runner up with 38 points - secured with 16 points from the front nine holes and an impressive 22 from the inward trek.
And Brian Cleland claimed third prize with 37 points which might have been even more impressive had he not failed to score at the 10th hole.

Paul masters blustery conditions
BLUSTERY winds failed to deny Paul Pender victory in last Sunday's club stableford competition at County Armagh.
The County Minors captain produced the top score - 40 points - as all around him golfers struggled with some of the most difficult winds of the season.
Some very steady scoring saw the 14 handicapper chalk up an impressive 22 points on the front nine. And he maintained that steady form to return a further 18 on the back nine which might have been even better had he not failed to score at the 12th hole.
However, it was still two points better than all the rest. Andrew Millar was the nearest challenger with 38 points returned with a 2-under par round off his handicap of 2.
Michael Carson also returned 38 points but had to settle for third prize after count back - an unfortunate 'no-score' at the 18th hole proving costly.

Past Captain John lifts Mayne Cup
PAST Captain of County Armagh John Flack finally got his game into prize-winning shape after a busy year in office.
It may have taken most of the season to do so, but victory in the Captain Arthur Mayne Cup competition was very welcome indeed - if not a surprise, as he admitted at the trophy presentation on Saturday evening.
John's 36 points in the stableford event for the club's over 65's was the best on the day.
Brian Hughes claimed the runners up prize with 35 points.
