ROOKIE Ricky Dobbs’ continued progress at County Armagh secured him first prize in the last of the September mid-week white-marker competitions. His 42 points was the best on the day and will no doubt have brought a further reduction in his 20-handicap as the season draws to a close.
A birdie 3 at the 5th hole helped him to 22 points by the turn and he added a further 20 from the back nine for that winning total 42.
Brian Wilson might have snatched victory from the young rookie had he not failed to score at the par 3 7th hole. His 41 points however, secured him the runners up prize on the day. Past Captain John Flack picked up third prize with 40 points – a ‘no score’ recorded on his card at the 15th hole also. Paul Doyle’s 38 points was the best of the Over 50’s and Neil Cromwell returned 35 gross points for the day’s gross prize.

THE weekly grind by Convenor Davy Baird arranging and scoring competitions at County Armagh was deservedly rewarded with a personal victory in officially the final Sunday stableford of the season. The Club’s Competition Convenor returned 42 points to top score in the event. He signed for 21 points front and back nine holes in a steady gross six-over par round.
Noel Loye was runner up just a point adrift on 41 – 20 and 21 points respectively front and back nine. Nathan Grimley returned 40 points to top Category 1 – with back to back birdie 3s at the 14th and 15th holes the main highlight of an otherwise steady round. Jarlath McReynolds was runner up in the same category signing for 39 points and recording back-to-back birdies at the 13th and 14th holes.
Danny Maxwell was the Category 2 winner with 40points and that after failing to score at the 12th hole. And Art McCrory returned the same 40points for the runner’s up prize after losing out on countback. Peter Murtagh and Jim Quinn both returned 41 points for respective first and second places in Category 3. But both will have been sorely disappointed by ‘no scores’ - Peter at the 17th and Jim at 18.

Brian Liddy was his closest challenger finishing with 41 points after recording 22 and 19 points respectively front and back nine holes.
Gervase Hughes led home the category winners with a hat-trick of birdies and 39 points to win Category 1. And Neil Cromwell’s birdie three at the 18th hole for 39 points secured him runners up prize. Miceal McParland picked up the top prize in Category 2 with 39 points but will rue a ‘no score’ at the par three 7th hole, and Derek Calvin, losing out on countback after returning a similar 39 points, was runner up.
