Thursday's competition in County Armagh Golf Club was a day of two halves. Bright sunny conditions greeted the morning players while those in the later part of the draw endured rain and wind. Nevertheless 44 players competed for the Ian Donaldson Trophy which was donated by Ian during his Captain's year in 1979. He later served as President of the Club when the existing clubhouse was reopened following reconstruction in 1982.
Bryan Hynds Garden Machinery are the new sponsors for this prestigious trophy. Lady Captain Gail explained that unfortunately the proprietors of Hynds Machinery were unable to attend the prize giving on this occasion but on behalf of the Ladies' Branch expressed her sincere thanks for their generous sponsorship.
Maura McCoy took third place with 39 points just behind Toni McManus who beat her on a countback. The overall winner was Colette McAleavey with 40 points. Accepting her prize Colette thanked her playing partner Lily and the new sponsors, and expressed her delight at being the recipient of the cup.

Exactly three weeks after Paul Doyle landed the Sunday spoils at County Armagh Golf Club, son Caolan followed in his old man's footsteps with a three-over-par masterclass that prevailed in the club stableford tournament on 2 July.
In the event sponsored by Whittles Spar Supermarket, Caolan stormed round the front-nine aisles to reach the turn with 20 points in his stableford trolley, before eventually arriving at the 18-hole checkout with a massive 42-point salvo. The resultant first prize was a not so unexpected item in Doyle's bagging area.
Playing off nine at the start of proceedings, Caolan bogeyed the 1st before embarking on a run of five pars in a row that was halted only by a birdie at the 7th.
This high was followed by his only true blunder of the day — a double bogey at the 8th — but, completely unperturbed, Doyle the younger proceeded to record seven pars and a birdie in his next eight holes before ending with a pair of fives for a fantastic gross 73.
County Armagh's most difficult par 3? The 9th, Plateau.

The Henry and May White Memorial Open kicked off the July schedule at County Armagh Golf Club and saw Desmond Kinsella roar to victory with a tremendous nett 65.
In the Philip White Tyres-sponsored stroke competition held on the first day of the month, Kinsella's round was bookended by double bogeys at the first and last holes.
Happily for the now 13-handicapper, however, those scrappy sixes were entirely out of keeping with the rest of his play in an excellent 79-stroke showing containing just four dropped shots elsewhere.
Consecutive pars at the 5th, 6th and 7th helped Desmond to a dominant halfway position of three under his handicap, but even better would follow on the back nine.
Seven pars on the spin between the 11th and 17th spoke to a man inspired rather than daunted by the prospect of glory and, indeed, it was this hot streak that guided Kinsella to his first piece of silverware since making a welcome return to the club after a spell in Rossmore.
Desmond Kinsella is presented with the Henry and May White Memorial Open Trophy by Philip White, proprietor of Philip White Tyres Ltd, sponsors of the annual competition at County Armagh Golf Club. Also pictured are Club Captain Richard Stewart and other prize winners (L-R) Conor McAneney (4th overall), Stewart Stevenson (1st gross), David Grimley (3rd overall), James Johnston (2nd gross) and Johnny Brown (5th overall).

Hewitt Meats were again the loyal sponsors of the Ellie Mayne Cup. Mrs Ellie Mayne presented the cup to the ladies' branch in 1966 and her golf clubs adorn the walls of the clubhouse.
The glorious weather conditions attracted a large field with 64 completing 18 holes, 10 playing 9 holes and a further 10 participating in the Get into Golf competition.
James Hewitt presented the prizes which had been beautifully arranged by Lily McMullan who had kindly included an additional two prizes for the Get into Golf ladies. Paula McCrory took third place with 38 points just behind Lily McMullan who beat her on a countback with 38 points. The overall winner was a very much in form June Humphries with 39 points. Presenting her with the top prize and the cup, James Hewitt remarked he was delighted to see that June was still showing the rest of the field how to perform. Both June and the Lady Captain Gail Steed thanked the sponsors most sincerely for their invaluable support and were delighted to be assured by James that he was very happy to support the Ladies branch and will continue to do so in the future.
