Consecutive July Sundays yielded victories for young and (slightly) older as Kris Calvert and then Gareth Frizell landed the spoils in stroke competitions at County Armagh Golf Club.
Teenager Kris couldn't be ousted from the leaderboard summit on 15 July after his boringly brilliant 15-par salvo contributed to a gross 74. Calvert's only dropped shots arrived in the shape of fives at the 4th, 5th and 11th, and this classy performance affords him single-figure handicap status.
Many a great round at CAGC has been plotted from this vantage point outside the Pro Shop. Sadly, all too few have been successfully transferred from the hopeful player's pre-game imagination to the actual golf course ... but there's always next week!
One stroke adrift of triumphant tyro, Calvert, was overall runner-up, Brian Cleland, whose nett 65 peaked with a splendid stretch of six pars in seven holes from the 6th to the 12th. Cleland was denied top spot largely because his round was bookended by double bogeys at the 1st and 18th (his only two doubles of the day) but he'll no doubt be content with second prize and a two-shot handicap cut.

Northern Bar sponsored the Bankers Cup at County Armagh Golf Club on Saturday 21 July and, when the results were returned, the drinks were on champion Mark Hughes, whose magnificent nett 63 topped a bustling field of 181 competitors.
Following a poor start that incorporated three double bogeys, Hughes sprung to life with a birdie at the 6th and proceeded immediately to reel off five pars in a row either side of the turn. Then, alternate bogeys and pars across the closing seven holes saw the Keady man over the line to a cup-clinching gross 81.
Mark had looked odds-on to take the Captain's Prize in June only to be undone by a late collapse, so this victory brings with it a satisfying sense of redemption as well as a new handicap of 16.
County Armagh Golf Club Vice-Captain, Kenny Edgar, presents the Bankers Cup to Mark Hughes, winner of the recent competition sponsored by Northern Bar, Armagh. Also pictured are other prizewinners Shane O'Halloran and Shea Brady.
Matching the winning total but losing out to Hughes on a break of tie was Shane O'Halloran. He negotiated the outward nine in just 41 strokes before responding to an ugly eight up the 10th with a gutsy par-birdie-par sequence that immediately recaptured his momentum. Shane would eventually register a superb nett 63 that scooped him the overall runner-up gong and clips his handicap by two shots.

A stableford event at County Armagh Golf Club on 8 July was sponsored by McAnenly Transport Ltd and witnessed Danny Maxwell cruise to an emphatic three-point victory.
Danny motored along quite beautifully throughout his round, neatly completing both nines in 43 strokes to amass an unbeatable stableford tally of 43 points. This virtuoso performance was helped by half-a-dozen pars and, in addition to topping the Sunday standings, Maxwell sealed a three-shot handicap reduction.
Danny Maxwell (centre) won a recent McAnenly Transport Ltd-sponsored stableford competition at County Armagh Golf Club and was presented with his prize by sponsor Sean McAnenly. Also pictured are Club Vice-Captain, Kenny Edgar, and other prizewinners Caolan Doyle and Martin Carson.
Next to Danny and securing the overall runner-up spot was Lee Stewart, who fired no fewer than five birdies on his way to an exhilarating gross 72. The accruing 40 points earned the talented Killylea player a new handicap of five.

Greenisland. Portstewart. Ashfield. Ballybofey. Cloverhill can now be added to the list of clubs that have been unable to live with County Armagh during the club's thrilling run to the last four of the 2018 Ulster Cup.
The quarter-final first leg was contested in Cloverhill on Monday 23 July, for which captain Marty Daly made one change by drafting in the experienced Anthony Hillen.
Having most recently seen off Cloverhill, County Armagh now face an Ulster Cup semi-final against either Royal Belfast or Malone.
In a tense encounter in South Armagh, Cormac O'Hare and Paul Corvan turned in brilliant displays to put two points on the board before, in the fading evening light, skipper Daly illuminated proceedings with a birdie at the 18th to notch another.
