Whereas almost biblical rainfall had caused the postponement of the Henry and May White Memorial Open 24 hours earlier, there were no such wetness worries at County Armagh Golf Club on Sunday 24 July. And taking full advantage of these much more clement conditions was Brendan Arthurs, who fired a superb nett 65 to clinch the July Medal.
Brendan's uncertain start to proceedings in the Alexander Mills-sponsored event was soon forgotten when he parred the 3rd and then landed a hat-trick of pars from the 7th to the 9th. Arthurs had now found himself a massive five shots under his handicap at the halfway stage, which meant that a steady if unremarkable back nine was sufficient for him to deservedly get his hands on the coveted monthly silverware.
Pictured alongside Club Captain, Colm Shannon, are July Medal prizewinners (L-R): Shane O'Halloran, Aidan McParland, champion Brendan Arthurs, Niall McGeown, Declan McReynolds, Vincent McCormack and Chris McCabe.
Elsewhere, Chris McCabe's birdie up the 10th ignited an impressive four-over-par back nine that earned him a nett 66 and the overall runner-up award. McCabe has had his handicap snipped to 14 on account of this excellent gross 81, which featured no fewer than eight pars.

In an increasingly prosperous summer on the inter-club matchplay front, a second County Armagh Golf Club team in a matter of weeks has qualified for a tournament semi-final.
Following closely in the assured footsteps of the Ulster Cup crew, who booked their place in the last four earlier in July, the Cathedral City club has also reached the semi-final of the Ulster section of the All-Ireland Four-Ball Trophy after defeating a much fancied Dunmurry outfit.
Tim Teahan's men set their stall out from the beginning of the quarter-final tie and posted a 3½-1½ scoreline in their favour from the home leg on Sunday 22 July. Here, there were victories for the pairings of Oliver Connell/Philip Dowey, Paul Kelly/Gavin McElmeel and Paul Wasson/Stephen Nugent before the visitors secured a narrow 17th-green win in match no.5.
Tim Teahan's All-Ireland Four-Ball Trophy team now face a semi-final clash with Greenisland.
The outcome of the remaining game would therefore be crucial to the direction of the overall encounter.

Having previously got his hands on the trophy in 2013, Neil Cromwell produced a phenomenal gross 68 to claim glory in the Allen Cup once again on 14 July.
It is Neil's talented son, Adam, who's been creating more column inches this season but, in this stroke event sponsored by JR McMahon Menswear, Cromwell senior stepped back into the golfing limelight. The wily three-handicapper birdied the opening hole before rattling off eight consecutive pars to negotiate the front nine in just 33 blows. A solitary bogey would follow at the 10th, and then a dozen more homeward pars were pleasantly interspersed by birdies at the 12th and 15th that smoothed his path to a reunion with the familiar silverware.
Cromwell's magical nett 65 total was one fewer than tournament runner-up, Mark Stevenson. As he trudged to the 8th tee at eight over par, Mark's outing was going nowhere in particular. However, a stirring comeback of eight pars and three bogeys across the remaining 11 holes catapulted Stevenson to the upper echelons of the Saturday leaderboard, and his handicap's been trimmed from 15 to 14 as a consequence of this bouncebackability.
Neil Cromwell receives the Allen Cup from Brian Graham of JR McMahon Menswear, competition sponsors, and Club Captain, Colm Shannon.
Tom Calvert started and finished with scrappy sixes but, happily, was a mere three over par for the intervening 16 holes.
