Price is right for Harold
HAROLD Price collected the first (April) medal of the season with a one shot, nett 65 winning score.
In the most difficult of windy conditions, the affable Harold returned the best score of the day leaving three players - Mark Loughran, Philip Kelly and Mark Gillen - all trailing in his wake.
A birdie three at the par four second hole was followed by some steady scoring over the front nine for Harold. And with a six over par return trek, which included pars at the 11th and 15th holes, he was always going to be hard to catch.
Mark Loughran put up the best challenge with returning a nett 66 score. The six-handicapper mastered the conditions superbly for a two over par front nine and level par back nine which included a birdie two at the 13th hole.
Martin Gill lifted the 0-12 handicap category first prize with a nett 66, winning on countback from Neil Cromwell, also nett 66, who producied the Best Gross Score of the day.
Philip Kelly and Mark Gillen had also to be separated on countback after both returned scores of nett 66 - Philip just getting the nod in the 13-18 handicap category.
And in the 19-28 handicap section Dr Gary O'Reilly had the perfect prescription for his first prize with a nett 70, winning from Paul O'Hagan, also nett 70, on countback.

Neil nails it!
Three closing pars secured the Sunday Club Stableford competition first prize for Neil Monaghan.
The 13-handicapper nailed the course's most difficult 16th hole and delivered par scores at the 17th and 18th holes to push Noel Murtagh into second place on countback.
A birdie two at the third hole helped Neil to a front nine score of 21 points, and that consistent scoring continued on the homeward trek with a thrilling climax to sign off on. Similarly 12-handicapper Murtagh recorded his own bridie at the fourth hole on the way to 22 points after nine, and he added a further 20 on the back - a bogey five at the final hole ultimately costing him the top prize.
Paddy Duffy was again recording 40-plus scores - he had 41, with birdies at the sixth, 12th and 18th holes - to win the 0-12 handicap category ahead of Sunday morning early bird Shay Brady on 40 points.
Brian 'Red' Wilson lambasted the day's slow play for his failure to win it outright, having chalked up 39 points before he stepped onto the 16th tee box. After a one-over par front-nine recording 24 points and steady scoring across the next six holes, he secured only a further two points from the remaining three holes for a 41 points finish - enough, however, to win the 13-18 handicap category ahead of Fergal McKinney on 40 points.
Basil Jolly was delighted with his return to the winners rostrum winning the 19-28 handicap category with 41 points and three points ahead of his nearest rival Paul McKeiown.

Kelly's a stableford hero
Philip Kelly's par at the final hole proved the difference between winning and taking runners up prize in the Saturday Club Stableford competition.
Benny Simpson had tracked Kelly all the way to a 43 points finish, but on coutback that par and a bogey for Benny proved the defining action.
Both players notched up an impressive 23 points on a drying front nine track, a birdie three at the par-four fourth hole the highlight of Kelly's start. And it continued neck-and-neck throughout the back nine with both adding a futher 20 points.
A similar countback was required to separate the 0-12 handicap category with both George Bradshaw and George Gillespie returning 41 points each. Bradshaw took the honours.
Brian Loney, a winner the previous week, continued his rich vein of winning form to produce a score of 40 points and claim first prize in the 13-18 handicap category where a very surprised Paul Corvan picked up second prize with 39 points.
And in the 19-28 handicap Category Jim Bagnall won the day with 42 points, Gareth Frizell runner up with 41 points from his round which included a birdie two at the 13th hole.
