15 and 9 Hole Stableford Competition

On Thursday 8 th March the Ladies Branch held their first competition of the golfing season under dry sunny conditions in the am and hailstone showers in the afternoon. Despite the heavy snow falls of last week and the ceaseless rain fall in January and February, the hard work done by the grounds staff over the winter months was very evident.

Lady Captain Elizabeth Mawhinney was delighted to see such a big number of ladies in the clubhouse. She welcomed the sponsor for the event Ms Donna Kilpatrick who provided some beautiful gifts as prizes from her devinebydonna range.

The overall winner of the competition was Lily McMullan with an excellent score of 33 points. Jacqueline Kelly took second place beating Paula McCrory on a count back with 25 points. Helen Forster took fourth place with 25 points. The 9 hole competition was won by Toni McManus beating Gina Morris on a countback.

DESTINATION GOLF' MAGAZINE REVIEW OF COUNTY ARMAGH

There's a nice description of County Armagh in 'Destination Golf' magazine's rundown of Ireland's top 150 courses 2018. I think most of us would agree with the "card-wrecker" line! 😊

"From the clubhouse you will get an inkling of the sort of golf course you'll be playing. Gentle swells, heaving trees, fine routing ... they all combine to make this little known course a very worthwhile destination.

"At times you'll be amazed by the setting because this is on the edge of Armagh city, yet many of the holes are completely immersed in trees and peacefulness.

"County Armagh is also old and, on this landscape, that means big mature trees and holes gliding between them. There are water features, but not too many, and the finishing stretch is what is affectionately known as a card-wrecker."

We feature on page 145 of the magazine, which can be found here:
