Ciaran returns to winning ways
CIARAN Black returned to top of the winners list at County Armagh Golf Club after victory in the recent Sunday Stableford competition.
A familiar face among the prizewiners last year and indeed in a number of competitions this season, Ciaran added to his haul with an impressive 44 points. Tom Fox was his nearest rival with 42 points.
John Maguire produced a similar 42 points from the best gross score of the day to win the 0-12 handicap category - six birdies on his card and a no score at the 11th hole. Shea Smyth was two points behind him with 40 points for the runners up prize.
PJ Quinn's 38 points secured the first prize in the 13-18 handicap category with Richard Stewart coming in second on 37 points.
Jim 'Kipper' Carberry's 38 points and better back nine, pipped to the post, Christopher Stockdale on a similar 38 points.

Terry invests for six-shot victory
TERRY Chin's investment in new golf clubs paid off handsomely as he produced one of County Arnagh's best winning round scores of the season to date to win the A & N Shiliday sponsored stroke competition.
With shining new Cobra irons, Terry returned an amazing nett 61 to win the annual contest by a clear five shots.
The affable Terry, playing off a 16 handicap, refused to allow the treacherous wind and rain to deter him on the day. After nine holes he was just three over and included in that outward trek a birdie 2 at the ninth hole. As the rain lashed greens throughout the second half, he birdied the 12th but dropped shots at 14, 15 and 16. However, even with a double bogey six at the 17th he was still to finish a world ahead of the rest of the field.
Marty Oliver came closest but was five shots adrift at that, and that after a steady, solid round off an 11 handicap.
Neil Linton, with bridies at the second and 13th holes, led home the 0-12 handicap category with a nett 67 and winning on a back-nine countback from Conor Woods who was also on the birdie trail at the second, fourth and sixth holes.
Brian McGrady claimed the 13-18 handicap category first prize with a net 69 and Don McKee with a nett 71 deservedly picked up the runners up prize.
Recent April Medal winner Kevin Boyd was back among the prizes in the 19-28 handicap category - this time with a nett 67 securing him first prize in the section with Benny Simpson second on nett 71.
Conor McGurgan produced the Best Gross on the day, 69.

Daryl's 'calculated' Banker's Cup win
DARYL Lawson wil tell you his was a 'calculated win' in the Banker's Cup competititon at County Armagh Golf Club.
His impressive nett 65 score was equalled by Thomas Murray and Francie Smyth. But on a nine-hole countabck Daryl was declared the victor.
The Danske Bank sponsored annual competition once again attracted huge numbers and despite somewhat difficult weather conditions, it produced an array of excellent results.
The Best however, was that of Daryl Lawson, with 9-handicapper Thomas Murray a worthy runner up. And worthy of note in Thomas's round are birdies at the sixth and eighth holes.
Brendan Powell was in birdie form too - at the second and 12th holes and his nett 67 secured him top prize in the 0-12 handicap category. Category runner-up Stewart Stevensonwas in a birdie class all of his own and bagged four on the day, at the fourth, ninth, 10th and 12th holes.
Francie Smyth deservedly claimed first prize in the 13-18 handicap category with his nett 65. But it could so easily have been his name in lights had he not recorded not one or two, but three double bogeys over the back nine holes. Sean Dougan, four shots adrift, was runner up in the cateogry with a nett 69.
The good doctor, GV O'Reily had the winning tonic in the 19-28 handicap category with a nett 68 and Stephen McGarvey played the poor patient for runners up prize with a nett 69.

First Medal win for Neil
NEIL Linton won his first club Medal at County Armagh Golf Club with a superb 4-over par nett 67 score in the May Medal competition.
The Killylea man, playing of a handicap of seven, was the outstanding player in the huge field, winning by a single shot from 15-handicapper Kenny Richardson.
Bar two dropped shots - at the fourth and ninth holes - his outward trek was blemish free. And he repeated the superb scoring over the back nine holes with a birdie four at the 12th hole compensating for a double bogey six at the 17th. His only other dropped shot was at 16.
Kenny Richardson produced a steady round and with a nett 68 was deserving of his runners up prize.
Six-handicapper Paddy Digby's nett 68, losing out to Kenny on countback, led the way in the 0-12 handiap category, where the in-form Shea Smyth picked up the runners-up prize.
Danny McGee will rue his triple bogey seven at the 15th hole. His nett 68 secured him first prize in the 13-18 handicap category. And similarly Sean Dougan will be disappointed with three double bogeys on his card which recorded a nett 69 and earned him runners up in category.
Big-hitting Michael Calvert's nett 71 and consistent scoring of late won him the 19-28 handicap category and deservedly earned him a place on the Clu Cowdy team against Lurgan. He pipped Charlie Johnston to that first prize in category by virtue of a better back nine.
John Maguire produced the Best Gross score 72.
