A three ball scramble was organised by the ladies branch on Thursday last. The weather conditions were very showery and not many teams completed their round in dry conditions. Nevertheless the scores were very good in the wet conditions. This competition is very generously sponsored annually by Hairlines Hairdressers on Dobbin Street.
The mother and daughter combination of Elizabeth and Alexandra Mawhinney and Gail Steed were the top team on the day and returned a fantastic score of 65.7 shots. Runner up with 66.5 was Flo McCall Joy Steenson and June Humpheries and third place went to the team of Paula McCrory Anne McDonald and Carmel Cassidy with 66.7. The Lady Captain Hilary Johnston presented the prizes to the various winners and Elizabeth on behalf of the winning team thanked Deirdre from Hairlines for her continuing sponsorship and support of the ladies branch.

The past lady captains of County Armagh Golf Club got together a few months ago to organise a club classic for the ladies branch. A lot of hard work went into the organising of this event and it was decided to have a four ball classic with two scores counting on all holes except the 6 th the 12 th and the 18 th when three scores would count. Just to make it more interesting each team was asked to play a yellow ball and there was a prize for the team with the best score for the yellow ball.
Over 70 ladies played for the fantastic array of prizes which were sourced by the following people including current club members. Raymond Donnelly from Donnelly Motors got a fourball in Concra Wood. Ann Conlon got a fourball in Rossapenna. The Slieve Russell fourball was secured by Ann Mone and Hilary Johnston got a fourball from The Heritage and Kilkeel. On behalf of the ladies branch I would like to thank the above people for their willingness to help out.
The following prize winners will be going to play on these wonderful courses. The top team on the day with 73 points was Hilary Johnston, Moya Brady, Anne McDonald and Carmel Cassidy who go to Kilkeel. Runner up with 70 points was Paula McCrory, Fionnuala Quinn, Lorraine Megaw and Rea Haughey who go to the Heritage. Third place was Barbara Gartland's team of Teresa McVeigh, Valerie Gordon, Sheila Hughes and Toni McManus with 69 who are off to the Slieve Russell. Fourth place was the team captained by Flo McCall, Joy Steenson, Lilly McMullan and Gillian Poole who are playing in Concra Wood. The Yellow ball competition was collected by June Humpheries team with Ellen Brady Mary Black and Gail Steed and they are off to the North West to play Rossapenna.
In a packed clubhouse on Wednesday night one of the past Lady Captains Sadie Scott, who was captain in 1976, was asked to present the prizes to the various winners. Sadie received a very warm reception from the ladies and presented the prizes to the winners.

Only 55 ladies played for the prestigious Armaghdale Cup on Saturday last, many pulled out due to the inclement weather. However good scores were still recorded and Barbara Gartland finally nailed the Armaghdale Cup. It is the only trophy she hasn't won over the years so she can relax now and take the rest of the season off.
The Competition was very generously sponsored by Gerard Davidson T/A Business Accounts Services and Frances Davidson presented the beautiful prizes of handbags and scarves on behalf of the Company.

In sunny warm conditions on Thursday last 46 ladies competed in the stroke play competition at County Armagh golf club. Annette Foster the proprietor of O L Flowers in Thomas St Armagh very generously sponsored the competition, with a beautiful array of flowers for the winners.
The top score on the day was returned by Phil McKenna with a net 67 and two shots behind her was Teresa McVeigh with a 69. The lady captain Hilary Johnston secured 3 rd place with a net 70. There was a large turnout of ladies in the clubhouse for the presentation of prizes. Annette presented the prizes to the various winners and said how delighted she was to support the ladies branch. The lady captain thanked her for her continuing sponsorship of the ladies branch.
Paula McCrory had the top gross score with 81 and the category winners were as follows A: Una Cullinane 72 B: Rea Haughey 76 C: Fionnuala Quinn 73, D: Donna Carolan 70. Barbara Gartland won the front 9 with 31 and K Mallon was best on the way home with 36. Collette McAleavey was the best Par lady and the 9hole competition was won by Maura McCreesh with 34.
The lady captain wished the two teams who have reached the All Ireland's, the Junior foursomes team and the Junior cup team all the best in the finals which take place in Mullingar at the end of the month.

On Thursday last 55 ladies took to the fairways of County Armagh golf course to compete for the Cross Refrigeration sponsored stroke competition. Just two strokes separated the top three ladies in a very keenly fought contest.
Best of the bunch was Colette McAleavey with a net score of 66 strokes which clinched the top prize. Colette who is a frequent visitor to the winner’s enclosure this year has her handicap reduced by 2 shots as a result of this great round. The runner up Denise Murphy shot a 68 net as did Lorraine Megaw who was beaten into third place on the count- back. The category winners were as follows: Cat A: Siobhan Donnelly 69, Cat B: Moya Brady 72. Cat C: Brigid McEnaney73, Cat D: Eilish Grimes 76. The best front nine was collected by Maura McCoy with 32 shots and Bernie Rice was best on the way in with 34.5. The top par lady was Ann McDonald.
A large gathering of ladies attended the prize giving and the lady captain Hilary Johnston thanked Cross Refrigeration for their very generous sponsorship and support of the ladies branch.
She went on to congratulate all the teams who made it to the Ulster finals recently and wished the Meile team all the best in Concra Wood on Monday next.

A large turnout of ladies played for the prestigious centenary trophy which was very generously sponsored by Stirling Financial Services.
The top score on the day was returned by the in-form Newry Road golfer Gail Steed. Gail's 67 nett strokes was one clear of Lorraine Megaw and Una Cullinnane who each had 68 with Lorraine's better back nine securing the runner up position.
In a packed clubhouse the Lady Captain Hilary gave a warm welcome and Paula McCrory presented the prizes to the various winners on behalf of the sponsor. The Lady Captain thanked Paula for her continued support of the ladies section and wished all the teams well for the finals over the next couple of weeks. The full results are as follows:

What a year it's been for the ladies teams from County Armagh Golf Club. Four of our teams are contesting Ulster finals over the next couple of weeks, beginning on 24 th and 25 th Aug when.
Our Junior foursomes team led by captain Pauline Vallely. Pauline has a strong panel of players who will play Edenmore in Royal Belfast on the Sat. On their way to the final they had 5 wins including Royal Co Down, Shandon Park and Portnoo in the semie's.
The Intermediate team are led by Colette McAleavey. These girls strolled into the final with a decisive win over Carrickfergus in Moyola. The team are progressing nicely and will be difficult opposition for Belivor in the final on Sunday.
The Junior Cup Team is captained by Ellen Brady. They also played their semi- final in Moyola against Galgorm and again returned to Armagh with the spoils. They play Killymoon in Royal Belfast on Sunday and this is the first of two derby matches in the finals.
The Miele team captain is Paula McCrory and they overcame City of Derry in the last four to claim a place in the final. They will play Mannan Castle in the final in Concra Wood on Mon 2nd Sept, another derby match.
It is a great honour to represent your club and the captains of the teams would like to thank all the squad members for their great commitment to the teams. Support at both venues would be appreciated and we wish all the teams the best of luck.

Over fifty people played in the Margaret Dean greensomes on Friday last at Armagh Golf Club. This competition is very generously sponsored by Noel Conn Accountants Lower English Street Armagh. In a closely fought finish Paul Doyle and Catherine Corrigan emerged ahead with a net score of 62. Just half a shot behind was the combination of Ciaran and Mary Black, while third place with a score of 64 were Stewart Stevenson and Lorainne Megaw.
The Lady captain Hilary Johnston presented the winners with their beautiful prizes and thanked all for their support of this great competition and the sponsor Noel Conn.
