Stableford win for Brian
BRIAN Loney's recent 'Sunday stroll' developed into a stableford victory at County Armagh.
The laid-back Killylea man took first prize in the club competition with an impressive 40points. Birdie 2s at the 3rd and 7th holes secured him 23 points by the turn. And with much of the hard work done he needed only a further 17 points for the honours.
His Killylea neighbour Andrew Millar was just a point behind on 39, secured with 19 and 20 respectively front and back nine.
And Stewart Stevenson weighed in for third prize with 39 points also, losing out in to Andrew on countback.

Joe's not so sweet sixteen
WHEN Joe McAleavey posted a 'no-score' at the 16th hole in the Half-Century Cup, he surely believed he'd blown his chances of lifting the County Armagh Golf Club trophy.
He finished with a bogey and the par to sign for 41 stabelford points - but it proved the winning score on the day!
A one-over par front nine secured 14-handicapper Joe 23 points. But after a further four pars it all began to go pear-shaped. A bogey at 14 was followed by a double bogey at 15 and then that 'no score' at 16. But he still finsihed in a dignified manner and when eventually all the counting was done, he was declared the winner.
Tommy Mackin produced 40 points, 22 and 18 respectively front and back nine holes, to clinch the runners up prize.
And John Sheehan with a back nine holes which yeilded 20 points, claimed third prize with a final tally of 39 points, winning on countback.

August Medal win for Stephen
STEPHEN McGarvey looks assured his place in the County Armagh Golf Club Championship final after winning the August Medal with an impressive nett 64.
The 18 handicapper produced the winning score in the penultimate medal competitions of the year from which the top 20 players will this year battle it out for championship honours next month.
He was just five over par after nine holes and used up just a further seven shots of his handicap on the homeward trek to sign for that winning score of nett 64.
Ronan O'Reilly is another who will likely contest the championship after taking the runners up prize in this competition, adding 19 championship points to that already accummulated throughout the year. The 10-handicapper was just four over par at the turn and dropped only a further shot on the back nine following a birdie and then double bogey at the 11th and 12 holes to finish with a nett 65.
Anthony Farrell's nett 66 deservedly took the honours in the 0-12 handicap category, James Johnston losing out narrowly on a back nine countback after he returned a similar nett 66.
Richard Stewart claimed the 13-handicap category prize with a nett 68, again winning on countback from Michael Macklin on a similar score of nett 68.
Big Eamon Toner was back in the prizes again after signing for a nett 6,7 and as form would have it on the day would, he won it on countback. Harold Price on nett 67 also, losing out on this occasion.
Stewart Stevenson, meanwhile posted the Best Gross score of the day - 70 - and he too being declared a prize winner on countback!

Roy's Mayne Cup man
Roy Turner will have his name engraved on the Arthur Mayne Cup after winning the annual stableford competition at County Armagh Golf Club.
Even recovering from a knee operation, Roy's 37 points was still the best score of the competition played each year by the club's over 65s.
He joined the ranks of the senior members earlier in the year after celebrating his 65th birthday, and has quickly added to his array of silverware won down the years in Armagh, by lifting the Arthur Mayne trophy.
After securign 19 points from the front nine holes, he got off to the worst possible start on the back nine with a 'no score' on 10. However, he birdied the 12th and returnng to that consistent scoring of the outward trek, was to add a further 18 points for a final tally 37.
Danny Maxwell was his nearest rival and infact was beaten only on countback after carding the same 37 points. A double-bogey six at the 14th was his undoing.
