Lady Captain Frances welcomed everyone to prize giving and announced the fantastic news that had happened during the week for the Ladies branch of CAGC. She congratulated the Challenge Cup team on beating Temple in the Ulster Final in Helen’s Bay on Tuesday.
Lady Captain presented Captain’s Lena Duffy and Joy Steenson with flowers and spoke of how wonderful they were in supporting and guiding the Challenge Cup team of ladies. She also spoke of the team who were very dedicated for every match and also supportive of each other.
Team Captain Joy also thanked the hard work and dedication of every member of the team and all club members of CAGC for their support over the 5 matches.
Lady Captain thanked Capper Trading Ltd. for their very generous sponsorship in providing the Challenge Cup team with tee shirts for the final and also thanked June’s son Alan for the embroidery on them. No doubt it contributed to the good luck!
Lady Captain was also extremely thankful and proud of the support which CAGC ladies gave on being present in Helen’s Bay to support the team! No doubt the celebrations will continue for weeks to come!
Catherine Vernon, one of the ladies of the Challenge Cup team spoke on her wonderful experience on being part of this very dedicated team and how privileged it was for all the team members to be part of the team. Catherine spoke of her highlight was playing with two legends, Anne Attwell and Audrey Kellett! She also spoke of the incredible support from the club in going to the matches and the support and guidance given by team Captains,Lena and Joy. In Catherine’s word ‘It was a wonderful Journey’.
Lady Captain Frances and on behalf of the Ladies branch, wished Past Captain Ellen Brady and her Junior Cup team further success in the All Ireland Women’s Junior Cup. This takes place in Tandragee Golf Club on the weekend of Friday 5th September. All members are very welcome to attend and offer their encouragement and support!
Before Paula, Handicap Secretary announced the winners of the Centenary Trophy, Lady Captain Frances, thanked Eamonn and Shauna Boylan, Corbet Fuel Supplies for their very kind sponsorship of the Centenary Trophy competition.
Despite Autumnal weather conditions the overall winner with a fantastic score of nett 67 was Marie Tennyson.
