AN HISTORIC CLUB WITH A MAGNIFICENT GEORGIAN PARKLAND SETTING SINCE 1893

Thirty teams played in the Friendship Cup competition at Co Armagh Golf Club on Thursday 1 August 2024 and the greensomes competition was once again very generously sponsored by Dante’s, Armagh.

The Cup had been presented to the Ladies’ Branch in 2022 by lifelong friends June Humphries, Flo McCall and Joy Steenson and it was a very emotional prize-giving for all being the first time the competition had been played since June’s passing.

Lady Captain Ellen Brady welcomed a large number of ladies to prize-giving extending a special welcome to Daniel and Carina Gallagher, Dante’s Armagh, who had recently opened a second venture in the City - Dante’s Deli at the Palace.  The winners received vouchers which Daniel explained could be redeemed in either business.

The surprised and thrilled winners of the competition, for the second year running, were Lynne Brown and Ruth Black with 43 pts.  Maggie Clarke and Lorraine Megaw were second with 42 pts and Siobhan Donnelly and Theresa Campbell were third with 41 pts.

There were twos for Paula McCrory and Moya Brady at the 7th and for Past Lady Captain Lily McMullan and Gail Steed at the 11th and 13th.

The competition was also a qualifying competition and Ruth and Lynne will represent Co Armagh in the Nellie Garrett at Knock Golf Club on Thursday 29 August.

9 hole stableford

Thirteen ladies played in the 9 hole stableford competition which was won by Teresa Corrigan with 17 pts.  Karen Edgar was second, also with 17 pts, beating Doreen Lappin on the countback.
