In glorious sunshine, sixty-one ladies played in the 18 hole PGA Tankard Stableford competition at Co Armagh Golf Club on Thursday 8 June, with a further 12 ladies competing in the 9 hole competition. The competition was very generously sponsored by Club Professional, Will Carey.
Welcoming ladies to prize-giving, Lady Captain, Lily McMullan extended sincere thanks to Will for his annual sponsorship of the competition.
Sheila Hughes came out on top with 41 pts, one clear of Lady Vice Captain Ellen Brady’s 40 pts. The gross prize was won by June Humphries with 30 gross pts. Eileen Fitzsimons was third with 40 pts.
Sheila will represent Co Armagh Ladies’ Branch in the Ulster final of the PGA Tankard later in the year, playing alongside the male qualifier and the Club Professional.
The remaining prize winners were:
Cat A – Mary Black 36 pts (btg Maggie McKee on better back 9)
Cat B – Geraldine Rafferty 38 pts
Cat C – Anne Mone 37 pts
Cat D – Carmel Cassidy 35 pts
Anne O’Reilly won the Back 9 with 20 pts (beating Caitlin McKinney and Donna Carolan on c/b) and Marie Tennyson won the Front 9 with 23 pts.
9 hole competition
Margaret Oakes won the 9 hole competition with 20 pts and Breda Teahan was second with 19 pts.
GIG competition
The winner of the Get Into Golf competition was Joan McCool with 65.
Eagles, birdies and twos
There was an eagle for Mary Black at the 17th and birdies for Mary Black at the 6th, Aoife Lennon at the 10th, Anne O’Reilly at the 14th and Hilary Johnston at the 15th.
Twos were recorded by Anne Mone at the 3rd, Ellen Brady at the 7th and 9th and Tara Grimley at the 9th.
