AN HISTORIC CLUB WITH A MAGNIFICENT GEORGIAN PARKLAND SETTING SINCE 1893

(Date for the diary: Club Wine & Cheese Evening, hosted by Nicholson Wine Importer, on Tuesday 21 February. Tickets for this event, which was open to non-members, were available behind the bar.)

There was a great turnout of fellow-golfers and invited guests for the first event of the year hosted by new Lady Captain,

Lily McMullan at Co Armagh Golf Club. In her opening address at the Ladies’ Supper Evening, which took place in the clubhouse on Tuesday 31 January 2023, Lady Captain Lily explained that the night was all about catching up with one another, enjoying delicious food, laughter and having a few drinks.

On behalf of Mr Captain Gerry and herself, she thanked all those who had kindly donated to their Foodbank appeal, before turning her attention to forthcoming golfing activities:

  • Spring League, very kindly sponsored by Vice Captain Ellen Brady, Ellens, Keady, would begin on Thursday 2 February.
  • Entries for the Link Cup were now open, via the BRS System, with a closing date of 28 February.
  • There was a new weekly fun 9 hole stableford competition ‘The Tee Ladies’. Hosted by the Lady Captain and played on either a Monday or Tuesday, golf was followed by tea and buns in the Clubhouse. Those who chose not to ‘tee off’ were welcome to come along for the ‘tea’.

Lady Captain Lily thanked all those who had contributed to what she hoped would be an enjoyable evening, including Ryan, Brenda, Andrew, Neil and Gemma, Nicola, all the staff and Committee.

The evening got under way with a drink’s reception, which was followed by a delicious buffet supper provided by Parklands Restaurant.  Following supper, Lady Captain Lily had organised entertainment in the form of a local storyteller, Mr Mervyn Walker, and the Orchard Ukes Club, who were no strangers to Co Armagh Golf Club.  Both of these were very well received, encouraged audience participation and contributed to what was a fantastic night.

To conclude the evening Lady Captain Lily had organised a raffle for which there were a large number of sought-after prizes, kindly donated by her, which were won by very lucky ladies.
