AN HISTORIC CLUB WITH A MAGNIFICENT GEORGIAN PARKLAND SETTING SINCE 1893

The heavy rain of the past few weeks threatened to cause a postponement of the Mary Peters Stableford qualifier in County Armagh Golf Club. However, 57 ladies took part in the competition on Thursday last and, despite the heavy conditions underfoot, Valerie Gordon returned an excellent score of 33 points, to beat Geraldine Rafferty into second place, her back nine score being sufficient to edge out Lily McMullan who was third.

The prizegiving was handled by Past Captain Margaret Marjoram in the absence of Lady Captain Gail who was attending the ABC council Sports Forum awards in Craigavon Civic Centre.

Valerie accepted her prize and, on behalf of all of the ladies, thanked Shirley of Professional Travel for their continued support. Valerie now goes forward to represent CAGC in the finals to be held later in the year.

The remaining winners on the day were

Category A          June Humphries 31 points (beating Mary Black on the back nine).

Category B          Pauline Gingles 32 points

Category C          Jacqueline Kelly 29 points

Category D          Maura McCoy 30 points

Front nine           Eilish Grimes 17 points

Back nine             Helen McLaughlin 17 points (beating Vera Ellingham and Sylvia Ashe on countback).

In the nine hole competition Margaret Marjoram won with 16 points, beating Molly Conway on countback.
