AN HISTORIC CLUB WITH A MAGNIFICENT GEORGIAN PARKLAND SETTING SINCE 1893

On Bank Holiday Monday 26 August 2024, thirty three ladies set off from Co Armagh Golf Club for Lady Captain Ellen’s Away Day to Rockmount.  Thankfully the weather was kind with only one short shower early on in the round for some.

Before the golf there was some tea/coffee and a scone with jam and cream to help sustain the ladies during their round and many also indulged in some retail therapy in Rockmount’s infamous shop.  A delicious two-course meal awaited upon return to the clubhouse where there was great chat and much laughter while everyone eagerly awaited the prize-giving and a chance to win one of the prizes very generously provided by Lady Captain Ellen.

The longest drive, at the 10th, was won by Geraldine Rafferty and Anne Attwell won the nearest the pin at the 9th.  Collecting their prizes Anne regaled how her ‘perfect’ shot had found its way so close to the hole and Geraldine explained how her longest drive was just a normal day on the golf course for her!

The overall winner of the competition was Anne McDonald, with 38 pts.  Anne McDonald was also the winner of the Open at Rockmount that day.

There were two Categories for the day.  Category A 0-26 and Category B >27.

The winners in Category B were:

1st               Maggie Clarke     34 pts

2nd                        Marie Tennyson   34 pts

3rd               Jacqueline Kelly   32 pts

Front 9       Sheila Hughes     20 pts

Back 9        Sheila Stinson     15 pts

Front 9       Maggie McKee     17 pts                    (beating Lady Vice Captain Frances Davidson)

Back 9        Anne O’Reilly       18 pts

There were twos for Vera Ellingham and Anne Attwell at the 9th, Jacqueline Kelly at the 12th and Maggie McKee at the 16th.

Lady Vice Captain Frances birdied the 1st hole and Michelle Kinane birdied the 2nd hole.

There were also a large number of spot prizes.

Many thanks to Lady Captain Ellen for organising such an enjoyable day and for the generous prizes.
