The Spring Open at County Armagh Golf Club, which was once again very generously sponsored by Lila’s, took place on Monday 15 May. Sixty six ladies, including visitors from Tandragee, Dungannon, Fintona, City of Derry, Portadown and Claremorris Golf Club, took part in the competition.
Lady Captain Lily McMullan extended a warm welcome to Mark Hawthorne and Lynda, Lila’s and a large number of ladies who were in attendance for prize-giving and thanked Mark for his long and valued sponsorship over many years.
It was a visitor from Tandragee who won the competition. Jane Johnston’s 38 points saw her presented with the cup and first place prize by Mark Hawthorne, Lila’s. Teresa McVeigh was second with 37 pts. Lady Vice Captain Ellen Brady won the gross prize with 25 gross pts. Una Cullinane was third with 37 points and another visitor Maire McReynolds from City of Derry was fourth with 36 pts. Bernie Rice was fifth with 35 pts (beating Jill McKenna on the better back 9).
The category prize winners were:
Cat A – Michelle Kinane (beating Denise Murphy,
Maggie McKee and Helen Forster) 33 pts
Cat B – Geraldine Rafferty 34 pts
Cat C – Jill McKenna 35 pts
Cat D – Gladys Villiers (beating Maggie Clarke and Anne McDonald) 30 pts
Jayne Henry won the Visitor Prize with 33 pts.
The front 9 was won by Valerie Gordon with 23 pts and Phil McKenna won the back 9 with 18 pts.
Jill McKenna won the longest drive at the 17th and Maire McReynolds was nearest the pin at the 7th.
The 9 hole prize was won by Anne Cairns with 15 pts.
Gail Steed had a birdie at the 10th and there were 2s at the temporary 2nd for Vera Ellingham and Patricia Hughes; at the 3rd for Helen Forster and Elizabeth Mawhinney; at the 7th for Paula McCrory and Maura McReynolds and at the 9th for Caitlin McKinney and Lady Vice Captain, Ellen Brady
