AN HISTORIC CLUB WITH A MAGNIFICENT GEORGIAN PARKLAND SETTING SINCE 1893

COUNTY Armagh Golf Club Captain Pat McAleavey praised members and friends whose donations to the Captain's Day charity, Alzheimer's Research, topped £1,000.

Foregoing gifts usually presented to the Captain, Pat encouraged members instead to make a contribution to his chosen charity.

“I am absolutely delighted that Alzheimer's Research will receive this magnificent sum,” said Pat.  “There are more than 19,000 people who suffered from the disease in Northern Ireland and I have no doubt this money will be put to good use in research.”

In his address to a packed clubhouse, the Captain also paid tribute to council, committee and greens staff for their commitment and work throughout the year and especially in the run up to Captain's Day.

Earlier Pat had welcomed family and friends to the coffee morning where the club's lady members provided a tantalising array of tray bakes and cream scones.

A superb meal from the Green Room Restaurant was served up to each and every golfer on the day, and special guests of the Captain enjoyed a similar sumptuous feast in the evening in the same restaurant surroundings before joining in the prize-presentation celebrations in the main clubhouse.

In all, 17 prizes were presented by Captain Pat and his wife Collette – to juvenile boys and girls, ladies, club officials and members, with the top prize-winner Gerry Kelly receiving the loudest applause.

In his own inimitable way, Peirce McBride responded on behalf of the club members and set the tone for an evening of entertainment and celebration which ran into the wee small hours. A good time was had by all.
