Norman conquers for three-in-a-row
In his footballing hey-day Norman Mallon made headlines for his hat-trick heroics. And now it seems in golfing competitions at County Armagh he's doing the very same.
Norman has just collected a trio of prizes in back-to-back competitions, his season's best individual score - nett 60 - among them and deservedly winning the penultimate Club Stroke.
With playing partner Colin Clarke, Norman kicked off his winning run in the recent 2-Ball Scramble where their nett 58.5 score earned them the runners up prize. A week later the same pair returned went one better with a winning score - nett 62.4 - in the Greensomes competition. But the very next day Norman produced his best individual performance to win the Club Stroke with an outstanding nett 60 score to scotch any suggestions it was his partner who delivered in previous competitions.
Indeed he was five shots clear of his nearest rival in the qualifying stroke competition. Martin Murphy got closest to him with a nett 65 and his better back nine pushed Niall McGurgan, with another nett 65, back into third place.
Michael Curley returned to the prizes to pick up fourth with a nett 66 and Kieran Campbell's nett 67 earned him fifth prize.
