Ronan adds President's Prize to his growing collection

Ronan O'Reilly's recent rich vein of form culminated in winning the prestigious County Armagh Golf Club President's Day prize.

The 10-handicapper has featured more than most in the prizes during the past month and deservedly added to his collection President PJ Collin's special award. His 43 points proved unasailable in the stableford competition which took place in ideal conditions.

More than 200 club golfers took to the course on the day, all hoping to capture the coveted prize and just a point was to separate the top three finishers.

Ronan however, was to emerge top scorer, his 22 points over the front nine holes and a further 21 on the return trek confirming him as the eventual winner.

Bogeys at the par four sixth hole and par three seventh were his only mistakes on the outward journey and he recovered those with a birdie four at the eighth hole. Another bogey at the 10th hole wasn't the best start to the back nine with another at the par three 13th. But he never looked back after that with five consecutive pars racking up the score.

Kyle Johnston, another improving player of recent weeks, was Ronan's nearest rival, his 42 points earning him a runners up prize. And the 12-handicapper will undoubtedly rue the double bogey six at the fourth hole which reduced his front nine score to 19points. With 23 points on the back nine, he could have been forgiven for believing he might have done just enough to win it.

Kyle Wilson led the category prizes with a similar 42 points, and will be equally disappointed not have to lifted the President's prize with just 17 points from the back nine holes to add to a magnificent 24 points scored over the front nine holes.

In Category 2 Terry Hamilton collected the the prize with another 42 points, 20 and 22 points respectively scored over front and back nine holes by the 17-handicapper. And in Category 3, Brian Liddy (19) was declared the winner with 38 points.

Past President Dougie Somerville was the deserved winner of the Past Presidents and Captains Prize with an excellent 42 points, 21 and 21 points front and back securing him the win. And Kevin Ward picked up the Council and Committee Members' Prize with 41 points.

The best Gross on the day was returned by Conor McGurgan, playing off a handicap of two.

President PJ Collins also had prizes for the top ladies who played earlier in the week and after countback involving three finisihers on 39 points, it was Emma Oliver who emerged victorious ahead of Orla Fox and Hilary Johnston.
