Last weekend saw our teams begin their journeys in Inter-Club competitions for the season and the weekend got off to a great start with our Junior Cup Team prevailing over Concra Wood despite having 3 away and 2 at home.
Debutant, Andrew Fox led the line at home with a fine victory and this was backed up by Chris McCabe as he secured our second home leg. With Rory Smyth and Paddy Digby’s away legs secured by the Concra team it fell to experienced campaigner Tommy Murray to see the tie home for County Armagh with a fine away victory after a titanic battle that went to the 19th hole. Next up is Tandragee.
Sunday was a day of foursomes’ competitions and Barton Shield were up first on Sunday with Adam Cromwell and Joe Rooney away at Cloverhill and Stewart Stevenson and Philip Kelly at home, both pairs prevailed and were in control of their matches from the off. They now face the winners of the Portadown/Killymoon tie.
Next up were the Pierce Purcell and Jimmy Bruen teams playing Clones and Killymoon respectively and both teams had difficult away draws with only 2 pairs at home and 3 away in both ties.
Both teams while performing well in the unfamiliar foursomes’ format, failed to get across the line and we wish Clones and Killymoon all the best in their respective next round ties.
This Sunday sees the Senior Cup team traveling to Clandeboye for the qualifier which is to be played on the Dufferin Course. Our 5-man team will play 18 holes singles scratch medal play with the best 4 cards to count to the team total.
The top 4 teams on the day out of 36 competing teams will qualify for the match play stage.
