HE may have slipped under the radar of the handicap convenor for much of the season, but Johnny Palmer felt his full wrath when he triumphed in the penultimate qualifier at County Armagh.
His 43 points winning score in the Hewitts Meats sponsored competition brought about a two-shot handicap cut, which some would harshly say, was thoroughly deserving.
Johnny, in his own inimitable way however, was no doubt quietly smiling in celebration at adding to his winning haul for the season.
Johnny Palmer, winner of the Hewitt Meats sponsored stableford competition.
He chalked up 22 points across the front nine holes with biries at the 4 th amd 6 th holes and added a further 21 points from the back nine holes for his wining 43.
Runner up Andy Steed returned a similar 43 points but a no-score at the 14 th – after a birdie at the 13 th - proved his downfall in the countback.
Pearse McBride was one point adrift but deservedly picked up the top prize in Category 1 – birdies at the 6 th and 11 th holes picked up en route. Marty Oliver with 39points was runner up.
Gerry McCreesh won Category 2 with 42 points with Andrew Clarke runner up on 41 points.
And in Category 3 it was Martin Kelly who topped the pile with 40 points. Rodney Villiers was runner up with 36 points.
