AN HISTORIC CLUB WITH A MAGNIFICENT GEORGIAN PARKLAND SETTING SINCE 1893

VICTORIA Bar owner Nicky Currie toasted success in the first Medal competition of the new season at County Armagh.

Returning a nett 66 score, he collected the coveted Medal from Club Captain Richard Black in front of a packed clubhouse before launching celebrations at his Barrack Street bar premises.

County Armagh Golf Club Captain Richard Black presents Nicky Currie with his prize after he won the April Medal competition. Included also are (from L-R) Walter Neville, Gary O’Reilly, Gary Baird, Jerome Leer, Shane O’Halloran and Rodney Villiers.

Dr Gary O'Reilly had returned a similar nett 66. But on countback, over the back nine holes, Nicky was three shots better than the good doctor.

Walter Neville might have believed his name was on the Medal after he too returned a nett 66 and included a hole-in-one in his round. His ace was recorded at the 7 th hole, his perfectly struck rescue club into a difficult wind, finding the cup. A further birdie 2 at the 13 th helped the 12-handicapper on his way to an impressive nett 66 score, but sadly only first prize in his category. Jerome Leer, with a nett 68, was runner up in the same category.

J Sheehan topped the mid-handicap section with a nett 67 and boosted his winnings with a 2 at the 9 th hole. And Gary Baird kicked off what proved to be a winning weekend taking runner up with a nett 67.

In the high handicap category Shane O'Halloran claimed first prize with a nett 67 and Rodney Villiers was runner up, narrowly beaten on countback.
