AN HISTORIC CLUB WITH A MAGNIFICENT GEORGIAN PARKLAND SETTING SINCE 1893

AFFABLE Anthony Conlon clinched the County Armagh Golf Club Championship title, winning by an impressive margin of three clear shots.

A superb nett 62 in the final round of the two-day competition was the outstanding score. And coupled with a nett 69 achieved the previous weekend, the 12-handicapper was deservingly declared the Club Champion 2014.

A fourth place finish in July's Motor Electric Open stroke competition qualified the easy-going Anthony among the top 50 for the Club Championship. And his nett 64 in that competition was indeed clear evidence he could be a leading contender come the 2-day championship.

In difficult blustery conditions his winning score nett 62 was achieved with four birdies, eight pars, five bogeys and remarkably, a triple bogey seven at the 5 th hole.

June Medal winner Jimmy Wilson, who produced the best score on championship day one – a nett 65 – battled bravely with the wind on day 2 to return an impressive nett 69. His total nett score 134 was indeed an impressive return for the five handicapper but still three shots of Anthony's winning score and in fact sufficient only to take third prize.

A summer Open Stroke competition winner, Brian Loney claimed the runner's up prize on countback after returning a total score nett 134 – scores of nett 68 and 66 respectively earning him the plaudits.

David P Grimley was placed 4 th in the championship after returning scores of 69 and 67 for a nett total 136.

Kieran Murray, a front runner after day-one, claimed fifth prize with a nett total 137 and Philip Kelly was a shot further adrift on 138 for sixth.
