AN HISTORIC CLUB WITH A MAGNIFICENT GEORGIAN PARKLAND SETTING SINCE 1893

Gary collects August Medal

GARY Lappin captured the penultimate club medal of the season at County Armagh with a hugely impressive nett 64.

It may have taken count back to eventually decide the outcome of the August competition, but the result saw breadman Gary take the honours ahead of Kieran Murray who also returned a nett 64.

Both however, will almost certainly have booked their places in the Club Championship competition which will be played over forthcoming, consecutive week-ends in September. And no doubt Gary will have his sights set on that prize also having narrowly missed out on winning it in 2012.

He got his August Medal round off to a double bogey start but recovered magnificently to drop only one further shot at the 9th hole before completing a four over par back nine for that nett 64 off his 13 handicap.

Kieran Murray, a ten handicapper, dropped only a single shot on his outward trek and a further three on the way home for his nett 64 - losing out narrowly to Gary on countback.

Philip Kelly was the top performer among the low handicappers with a nett 65 earning him first prize in Category 1- an eagle 3 at the 12th hole and a birdie 3 at the 16 the highlight of his round. And Paddy Hicks was runner up collecting also from from the 2's pot with a birdie at the 7th hole.

Art McCrory recorded three birdies on his way to a nett 66 finish and first prize in Categgry 2 where Paddy McElmeel was runner up with a nett 67.

John George Willis will undoubtedly have attracted the attention of the handicap convenor with a nett 65 to claim the first prize in Category 3 - a massive 4 shots ahead of the rest of the field which was led home by Gareth Frizzell on nett 69.

A three-under par round earned John Maguire the Best Gross prize on teh day.
