Currie's just too hot in Twelfth Open
A SIZZLING three-under par round producing 45 stableford points by James Currie was simply too hot to handle for the rest of the field in the Open competition played at County Armagh on the Twelfth.
The six handicapper was untouchable, two points clear of his nearest challenger Mervyn Watts whos own impressive score of 43 points could have claimed the prize on any other day.
Currie dropped a shot at the first but followed up with birdies at the second, third and fourth holes and by the turn had maintained the good form to remain two-under par. A further birdie followed at the 12th hole and with pars at each of the remianing holes he was always going to be hard to beat.
Killyea's Lee Stewart picked up third prize with 42 points and Caolan Doyle claimed fourth on countback with 41 points and a better back nine than Kenny Edgar on a similar score of 41 points.
Andy Conn's 40 points earned him the final men's prize on the day.
In glorious sunshine the ladies also enjoyed the Open competition on the same day and it was Paula McCrory who led home the winners with 33 points. Cath Murray picked up second prize with 31 points and after countback Sylvia Ash and Alexandra Mawhinney collected third and fourth prizes respectively after each finished on 30points
